Dedication On July 31, Mr. J. Wilbert Jones will retire after twenty years of service to the Southampton school system and community. He will be sincerely missed by all who know him. Mr. Jones current position as Superintendent of Schools is but one of the many prominent offices he nas held in the community. He is a past President of the Ro- tary Club, East End Athletic Association, Suffolk County Athletic Association, East End Principals’ Association, and Suffolk County School Executives Associa- tion. He has also served on the State Athletic Association, the Board of Directors of the Southampton Golf Club, the Suffolk County Interdepartmental Social Wel- fare Advisory Committee, and has chairmaned the local Salvation Army Unit. Mr. Jones obtained his B.A. in mathematics, science, and education at St. Law- rence. He received his master’s degree in educational administration and supervi- sion at Syracuse University. In the years to come, we will remember him as a warm friend, a valuable advis- er, and a sincere and dedicated servant of the community. We the Class of 1968, wish him continuing success and happiness as we respectfully dedicate to him this, our 1968 Sea Spray. 4
When the school year opens in September next year, a well known member of the school system will be missing. Mr. Harold Philp is retiring after 22 years of service in the South- ampton Schools. Mr. Philp, who came to Southampton from St. Andrews. Scotland in 1930, is planning to return to Scot- land with his wife for a visit this summer. He has no definite plans after the trip, but is considering several job offers. We will miss his friendly grin and cheerful whistle throughout the year. A grateful thank you to him from the class of 1968. Harold Philp At the close of the school year, Miss Doris Weber, will also leave the Southampton School System. She has served it long and well as an English teacher in grades 9, 11, and 12. Miss Weber served as yearbook adviser for twelve years and advis- er to the receptionists for the past three years. Miss Weber re- ceived her B.S. from the State University at Albany and her M.A. from the Bread Loaf School of English of Middlebury College. She plans to travel after retiring. A grateful thank you to her from the class of 1968. Doris Weber Miss Edna Wood will also retire at the end of the school year. Miss Wood, a native of Southampton, has been the School District Clerk and Business Manager. She is a gradu- ate of Rider College. Miss Wood has no set plans for the im- mediate future.
