To the Students of S.H.S. Twenty years ago today, I signed my first contract as Superintendent of the Public Schools of South- ampton and will this coming week submit my resig- nation to become effective July 31, 1968, in order that I may begin my retirement at that time. These years have been happy ones for me because during them I’ve had the pleasure of dealing with real fine young people, a sample of which is gradu- ating this year. To each of you, the ones gone by and those here now who someday will be graduates of this school, I extend my best wishes for all possible success and say thank you for having had the privi- lege of serving as your Superintendent of Schools and knowing you. Sincerely, J. Wilbert Jones Superintendent of Schools Assistant Superintendent L A U R I E M P A T T E R S O N

Dear Members of the Class of 1968 Many will consider you educated now that you have accumulated a vast storehouse of information. You have studied literature, mathema- tics. history, science, and a variety of other subjects that round out your knowledge of man and his environment. You are literate, but is literacy the major purpose to which your edu- cation has been directed? No, I believe it has been concerned with a more subtle and less obvious goal; one which can help you to develop a sound purpose in life within the framework of your personal code of honor. This is the foundation, the Gibralter on which all your opinions and actions will be anchored in a fast moving and changing world. The honorable man is incorruptible. His judgment is sought, and peo- ple put their trust in his hands. The honorable man can at all times trust himself above all others. He will look at both sides of an issue. He will alter his decisions when new facts are presented. He cannot be swayed by emotion, tears or money; neither will he avoid facing the issues of the day forthrightly and with clear conscience. You, the individual, have more responsibility and face more decision- making than civilized men have had to undergo in times gone by. You are that individual of today and also of tomorrow'. May you, the members of the Class of 1968. find the rock of honor and trust and go forth to better the material and spiritual lot of mankind. Best wishes and good luck to each of you. Sincerely Miss Edna K. Wood, Clerk, Mrs. Millicent King. Everett King. Dr. Hugh Halsey. James Burnett. President. J. Wilbert Jones. Superintendent, Floryan Stachecki. Hildreth Rogers, James Neighbours.
