TO THE CLASS OF 1958: We trust that as you leave the portals of Southampton High School behind, you have gained those tools necessary for useful citizen- ship. May you ever be mindful of your American heritage and be willing to exercise the rights and responsibilities to preserve it. May you serve God and country before self. May you squarely face the challenges of a troubled world with vision, tolerance and moral courage. May you never tire of learning and thus advance the horizons in medicine, educa- tion, religion, science, jurisprudence and human relations. May you marry and rear children with the love and understanding needed to strengthen the basic unit in our society, the family. May you lead or follow leaders who hold steadfast to the wisdom of God and not the wisdom of self. May you pursue those rules of health that make for soundness of body and mind. Toward the end of a better person and a better world, our blessings go with you for future success and happiness. Richard S. Spooner Principal Board of Education Foster Corwith, Charles Guilloz, Robert Holmes, Edna Wood—Clerk, Francis Jessup, J. Wilbert Jones, James Sanford.

November 4, 1957 Today, a member of your class made this statement: “Education is one’s passport to great opportunities.” Today, there are, soaring in space, two man- made satellites placed there not by chance, but as a result of many years of study. By the time this paragraph is read, greater achievements will have been made by us, I’m sure. Today, every young man and woman in our democracy owes it to himself and his society to get the best and most education that he or she individually can acquire in order that his “passport” may be assured. Today, it is my hope that each member of the Senior Class of 1958 may always be proud to present his “passport” from his Alma Mater, Southampton High. Tomorrow, may your “passport” always stand you in good stead. Sincerely, J. Wilbert Jones Superintendent Administration and RAYMOND ORTS Elementary School Principal Assistant Superintendent 4
