THE BES T OF TIMES Power, Authority, Upperclass--These are the thoughts that invade the minds of the Class of 1986 as we en¬ tered Senior homeroom for the first time in September. After twelve years we have finally made it, Seniors At Last! The faces beamed brightly, showing feelings of pride and self- confidence, coupled with anticipa¬ tion, hope for a good year, and fear of what the future holds. Then the year officially begins. Seniors first must try to make it into school on time and then try to stay awake during their classes. After the late bell sounds for the beginning of A period the Se¬ nior hallway is still cluttered with peo¬ ple. The teacher asks, Why are you late? . What is the typical answer of a Senior?-- The freshmen were in my way! Well, they may block the halls but not our futures. It is the Best of Times and things can only get better! Come on Donna, smile! Sue and Chris, an ad for Close-Up? 2 Cheer Up, Guys! Wanna Polka? You are targeted for termination! —i Wanna give me a ride? Can you tell which of these two are the exchange students? Skank or Die? SATURDAY, OCTOBER 19, 1985 It was a rainy morning when the citizens of South Windsor joined forces to con¬ struct the exercise trail of the Nevers Road park. As the day progressed, the trail lengthened, the sweat mixed with rain, and muscles became sore. Kevin, Tim, Scott, Rob, Mike, and Matt woke up early on a Saturday morning to cheerfully help build the trail, under the careful supervision of Mr. Brown. A good secretary has to smile, right Carey? You mean I have to get my hands dirty? says Sue LeBlanc. ahead warp factor one. Aye aye Captain Stevie who? Seniors psyched on ' Fright Night ' -the Senior event My Friend My Friend My friend, my friend as I look back upon the years a smile reaches to my lips followed by the tears that grace my eyes and reflect the light which you so often let me see. And I too, helped you find your way, giving me reason to be. To be here for you and share our youth; to grow, to learn, to strive, to laugh, to love, to fear, to cry, to simply be alive. My friend, my friend as time proceeds to make us wiser day by day, the time grows close for us to part; I know not what to say . . . I love you. Susan A. To spend too much time in studies is sloth; to use them too much for ornament is affectation; to make judgement wholly by their rules is the humor of a scholar . Francis Bacon JA e the class of 1986, extend our deepest thanks for all your hard work and y y understanding. Together you have made this a very successful year for us. You have helped us through the difficult times of organizing our final year at South Windsor High School. You have taken some of the responsibility of life off our shoulders by placing it on your own. You have kept us together as a class, making our senior year our best. To you, the Senior Advisors, our deepest appreciation and gratitude. I think that now the majority of my goals have been accomplished and I can summarize my experience as highly positive. When I arrived here it was a great change since it was the first time that I had been separate from my family and friends for such a long time and so far away. I didn ' t know anyone and had little knowledge of the language or the customs. One difference is that one has to be 21 to drink and 16 to drive. In Uruguay there is no drinking age and you have to be 18 to drive. School in Uruguay is very different. The schedule is different everyday and there are more mandatory subjects. One thing that I really love here is all the activities, sports, and social life that we don ' t have at home. I won ' t to thank the class of 86 for all the fun times that we have shared. I especially want to thank my host family and my friends for all unforgettable moments that we have spent together. I will never forget you and I will miss you now that you are a part of my life. I promise I will be in touch. Dan Klein Elisabet Gunnes Hello, my name is Elisabet and I am a foriegn exchange student here at South Windsor. In the town of South Windsor I live with my host family, Mr. and Mrs. Schwalbendorf, who have also had another exchange student stay with them last year. I come from Oslo, Norway and there I have lived most of my life with my parents, my two older brothers and my older sister. Norway is a country in Europe where four million people talk norwegian, we have one TV channel, and one McDonalds. Other than that it is not much different from the United States. I am very glad that I was accepted to the YFU exchange program. A year away from home is rich on adventure and new experiences. And meeting friendliness and openness, as I have here, the year has become something I could never trade for anything else. I would like to thank the administration and the teachers of South Windsor High School, the girls on the soccer team that have given me great memories from a season of soccer, all the friends I have got here at school through classes, hallway rushes and lunch, and especial¬ ly my host family who let me live in their home as a member of their family- all for making it possible for me to come here and learn about your country and culture. If I ever could make it up to you, you aremore than welcome to come to Norway. (As I said, we do have one McDonalds). Takk for alt-Thanks for everything. Elisabet Gunnes Jukka Naukkarinen I do not think that any student could ever feel the same feelings that I have felt this year at South Windsor. When I was on my way here I had so many different thoughts and questions. The biggest question was how can I manage this year when I am away from my family for such a long time. Well, I have to say that most of my worries were unnecessary. I had and honor to meet many wonder¬ ful people at the beginning of the year who have helped me alot to adapt here in South Windsor. I have been very lucky to be here. I do not know what else to say but everybody has been really kind and tried to help me when I havehad problems. There were so many times I asked ridiculous things but nobody ever picked on me. They only helped! I just have to say that I am very pleased sbout those little things. I thank everyone very much for the year that I have spent with you. I have had a great time and really enjoyed America. Jukka Naukkarinen Sebastian Berthod I was looking forward being an exchange student since the day of application in the exchange program. I like America very much. The people here make it great country where everyone is welcome. I am from West Germany and there are quite a few differences between the American and German cultures. However it is not hard for me to find my way around in America. The American way of life and the German have alot in common. I like South Windsor High School very much because of all of the activities after school, which the Germans don ' t have. Thank you for giving me this chance to learn about America and it ' s people. I has been an experience that I will never forget.
