' ' . ( N, ? rps A W n i) SENIORS EVENTS UNDERCLASS ORGANIZATIONS FACULTY SPORTS ACADEMICS SPONSORS With deep respect and appreciation, we, the class of 1984, dedicate this Centurion to Mr. John Marchet- ti. He is a paragon of excellence. He has made our school years better by always being interested in us. He is never too busy to discuss our problems or exer¬ cise the skill of listening. His mien wins both respect and popularity from ail. He is strong when strength is necessary, and compassionate, when compassion is needed. Throughout the years, he has advised us, lightened our spirits and reminded us of test dates, scholarships and other important facts. His guidance, time and concern will always be remembered. We would like to thank Mr. Marchetti from the bottom of o ur hearts. ■ mm , , ■% ! NC . m mmm mm ■ §■ test mms mmw w wm Tom Geary shows his pride in the Class of ' 83— a year late. When the bus came into sight, it was as if summer had never existed. : 4 -u RRRRINNNG! 6:00 a.m. hasn’t had meaning for three months but when the alarm clock sounds on that dark September morning, meaning returns. It is hard to give up the warmth of bed for the cold reality of another school year, but when bed is surrendered, habit takes over. Showering, getting dressed and eating breakfast form the routine that marks a day of school. Standing for the bus, a familiar feeling arises, a feeling of excitement and of apprehension. During the ride one wonders if he will ever arrive. But when the bus appr oaches the school, the image of the building in the morning ' s misty haze makes it all seem somehow un¬ real. inside the building the feeling remains. With students and faculty dashing around, the atmosphere is dream¬ like. The Sophomores, with concealed awe, try to mas¬ ter these unfamiliar halls in a frenzied attempt at being in the right place at the right time. With studied noncha¬ lance, the Juniors display their experience by discussing schedules and teachers. The Seniors, realizing that this is their final year, take time to renew old acquaintances. Onward the day proceeds, with confused directions, lunchroom pile-ups and mixed up schedules until the end of the day when the students realize it is over. The first day is now history and school has really begun. Mr. Plunkett lends a helping hand on Day One. The French classes here are very popular, as the romance Language attracts many students. Those who take Spanish are more practical as it is the second most widely used language in this area. Latin is for the scholars among us, who perhaps wish to have a better command of Engilsh. All three foreign languages provide an interesting and important part of the student ' s schedule. Another math course that has become very popu¬ lar is Computer Programming. This course familia¬ rizes students with the basics of computers. It pre¬ pares the students for the up and coming world of computers. The head of the Computer Department, Mr. Cloutman, has striven to bring about more courses and Machines to help students develop their computer skills. South Windsor High School has done very well in decreasing computer illiteracy. From the beginning or time to contemporary issues, the combination of various cul¬ tures, theories and people broadens the students ' under¬ standing and awareness of the world in which they live. Em¬ phasis is placed upon oral skills through class presentations, debates, and discussions. All students learn how to operate voting machines and have the opportunity to vote in mock elections. Law students partake in mock trials in state¬ wide competition; Connecticut History students visit impor¬ tant historical sites in the state; the World Affairs Club partici¬ pates in a model U.N. There is something for everyone in the diverse Social Studies depart¬ ment. Emphasis is placed on critical thinking, expression through writing and understand¬ ing of thought trends in literature. «• - r r“ 112 Outside the rain was pouring that warm spring day at the end of May; May 21,1983 to be exact. Nerves proved to be the greatest drawback as we anticipated the momentous occasion of our junior prom. However, once the swinging hoopskirted gowns and spiffy tuxes sauntered through the doors of the Ramada inn in East Windsor, much worry re¬ mained behind in the hearts of our parents who had immortalized these fears on film. For now love would lift us up where we belong. JUNIOR PROM Drama Club ' 84 Drama Club Board of Managers When the Drama Club gears up for a major production, such as PETER PAN, it means a lot of work. Set construction, publicity, rehearsals and planning all play major roles in bringing about a success¬ ful play. GREAT TIMES The sophomores sat nervously in the front of the auditori¬ um, awaiting the inevitable call from the stage for their skit. Ending a week of signing up sophomores, rehearsing sketches, and worrying, the victims of upperclassmen ' s jokes were ready for an evening of embarrassing moments, dressed as anything from dogs to old ladies. The senior Fall Event, held on Saturday evening, October 22, was a great success due largely to the help and support of the Senior Class advisors and the cooperation among the senior Class itself. Flashdancing munchkins, handcuffed sophomores, and questionable beauty contests were combined with ex¬ cellent performances by our Senior classmates to round out the evening and make it a fun event for all involved. The team put forth a tremendous effort throughout the season. The goal-hungry offense hustled well, banging in a total of 31 goals. With 8 major injuries, 7 putting players out for the season, the Bob¬ cats turned into an underclass team, inexperienced and not ready for the stiff competition. There were the light spots, too. Coach McCarroll ' s personal highlight was the tie with Windsor, which kept the opponents from competing in the league championships. , .y SOCCER FINISHES Varsity Soccer: Front Row; G. Clinton, G.
