' HAA S Life, so they say, is but a game and they let it slip away. Love, like the Autumn sun, should be dying but it’s only just begun. Like the twilight in the road up ahead, They don’t see just where we’re goin’, And all the secrets in the universe, Whisper in our ears and all the years will come and go and take us up, always up. We may never pass this way again. We may never pass this way again. Dreams, so they say, are for the fools and they let ’em slip away. 7 Peace, like the silent dove, should be filin’ but it’s only just begun. Like Columbus in the olden days, We must gather all our courage; mmmmihmhmmmmmip And sail our ships out on the open sea, Cast away our fears and all the years will come and go and take us up, always up. all f Wf) f W miff VmrhmK Sept ft- ’? Oct 10 12 So, I wanna laugh while the laughin’ is easy. 13 We may never pass this way again. That’s why I want it with you. ’Cause we may never pass this wax; again. We may never pass this wag again. JAMES SEALS and DASH CROFTS WITH APPRECIATION AND UNTOLD RESPECT The Class of 1983 wishes to dedicate its yearbook to a most enthusiastic man, Mr. Philip Locario. As a teacher, Mr. Locario makes English class more enjoyable through the enthusiasm and vitality with which he conducts every class, thereby motivating his students to learn. Outside the classroom, much of the same devotion exists. Mr. Locario promotes school spirit through his direct involvement with both the ice hockey and boys tennis teams in addition to his overall support of sports at South Windsor High School. Senior year would not have been the same without his incessant encouragement and help. In short: “He gives 120%” For the joys of the past and the prospects of the future, we wish for Mr. Locario the best that life has to offer. Charlie Sharos, however, would like to beii remembered as a coach who got maximum) mileage out of the talent he had. “That ' s a coach’s job. to get the most out of the kids,” said Sharos, who has been associated with South Windsor High School as coach and athletic director since 1956. “I tried the best I could, and I was fortunate toj be associated with young men in South Windsor who were willing to sacrifice and pay the price. Most of those victories werei obtained from hard work and 100 percent! effort.” The hard work has paid off for Sharos. He ’ has been named as the winner of the Doc ' Mclnerney Award, given annually by the | Connecticut Sports Writers’ Alliance to the ] high school coach of the year. Sharos will i receive his award at the 42nd Gold Key Dinner Feb. 13 at the New Haven Park Plaza. Tickets, priced at $25, are available from the Journal Inquirer Sports Depart-j ment. “I feel honored to be selected by thej sports writers,” Sharos said, “but I only] represent the young men of South Windsor. They’re the ones that have performed over] the years. But I’d have to say this is one of] the highlights of my career.” SOUTH WINDSOR - Another game, another milestone for South Windsor High basketball coach Charlie Sharos. Sharos recorded his 350th basketball coaching victory at South Windsor as his Bobcats trounced Windsor Locks, 61-35, in a Central Valley Conference game here Tues¬ day night. Sharos wins honor from state writers Sharos, SW end skid with 600 th victory VERNON — It took 26 years for Charlie Sharos to garner 599 coaching victories at South Windsor High School, covering the sports of basketball, baseball and soccer. Win No. 599 came on the soccer field against Bulkeley High of Hartford Sept. 17. In its next five games, however, the South Windsor soccer team managed only one tie and four losses. Who could blame Sharos if he began to wonder if it might take another 26 years just to get win No. 600? But victory No. 600 came for Sharos here Wednesday in the form of a 3-0 soccer triumph for South Windsor over Rockvillle in a Central Valley Conference game. Our class had plenty of what it takes So as we approach the exit gates, We hereby bequeath to names here inscribed The gifts we hold dear, with wisdom inbibed. To sophomores we leave a school that is great Even though WE’RE glad to be leaving its gate. Juniors, of course, deserve special mention Do the homework we didn’t and avoid that detention. To all our teachers we eternally bow, You were really terrific, we realize now. To Mr. Plunkett, a big thanks is due, For being our principal and a great guy too. To Mr. Bordonaro, we leave a suggestion, Learn some new jokes for next years session. Mrs. Sampson deserves a great big thank you For listening and understanding us too. To Miss Moran, the whole class’s friend. For all her help a thank you we send. As we leave Mr. Myslinski we shed a large tear And we’d like him to know it gets us right here. Mrs. Biancucci, who we’d never forget, We love you dearly and are glad that we met. We leave Mrs. Flartan substituting classes, And thank her for writing all those passes. We leave David Squillante still flirting with all the girls, And Joey Walsh with all his red curls. We leave Brian Hogan still saying “GEE”, And Jessica Wall as preppy as can be. Jim Bourke leaves with his sexy blue eyes, While Tommy Ricci continues to lie. Chris Caramma was always our own singing star, Keep up the good work and you’ll go far. Betsy Hintz leaves behind all her admit slips To all the sophomores who like to skip. Dee Czelazawicz, and Renee King depart in black leather coats, While Kevin Andersen continues to read music notes. We leave Ken Brennan still swishing the hoops, And Kathy Hill still snooping for scoops. James Trinks is one who’s good for a joke While Laurie Green leaves complaining she’s broke. Where you find Linda Powers you’ll find a keyboard, Jeff Main was our hockey player who always scored. Kathy Bentley always got along with ALL others, In looks Vinny Callahan takes after his brothers. We leave Sue Martineau dressed in purple and pink, And Tracy Morison working at the rink. Frenchie’s the name we remember Kim LaBrecque by, Andre Fournier was known as Tuna, but who knows why? Debbie Castonguay we know her for loving to talk, Chris Elia was different, he had a mohawk. Steve Bahler we think is very sincere, Bob Kucza was one who was never here. Betsy Carroll is someone we all should thank, For doing a great job at her officer rank. We’ve considered Kim Thibodeau our jewelry queen, While Meredith Throwe drove a limousine. We remember James Russell as our quarterback, And Linda Pavone for her scholarship in track. Lynda Pitzi leaves loving saxophones, And Tracy Sheriden loving The Stones. Chris Morris leaves with her Ingling voice, Dawn Petruzielo thinks purple is choice. We’ll remember Phil Serkosky by his nickname File, And Alice Mealy for running the mile. Ginny Schopp was always so quiet, And Lauren McCormick liked to diet. Brian McAndrew had great talent in soccer, And Mary Brady a crowd at her locker. Tracy Molitoris leaves her tittle of Junior Prom Queen, While Amy Champagne leaves a record spotlessly clean. Jeff Sabia was an excellent person to know, And we all hate to see him go. Betsy Vignone and John Russo leave together, They’ll probably be that way forever. Mary Roy and Lisa Vendetti were two best friends as you could see, But Karin Gremmo came along and made it three. We’d also like to bring some attention, To all of those we didn’t mention. You all are terrific and good friends indeed. And that friendship is something that we all need. And now that our life as adults must start. With our high school days we are forced to part. The friends, the dances, and all the good features, And, of course, don’t forget the wonderful teachers So as we leave our school behind, No matter where our paths may wind We’ll always know they’ll always be, Our friends from the class of ’83. Good Luck to all our classmates, Lisa Vendetti and Mary Roy 223 SOUTH WINDSOR In 1845 the Town of South Windsor was incorporated, having separated £sg|£pm East Windsor which had been divided from Windsor in 1768.
