And suddenly it s hard to find the memories you left behind. Do you remember the laughter and the tears, the shadows of misty yesteryears? The good times and the bad you’ve seen, and all the others in between. Do you remember the times of your life? Reach back for the joy and the sorrow , put them away in your mind. For memories are time that you borrow to spend when you get to tomorrow. ! r | I 1 M j P Iv i 1 v 7 Here comes the setting sun. the seasons are passing one by one mmmmz ' eJtiahanliq mmi m rnr SPlS |i ii So, gather moments while you may; collect the dreams you dream today. We, as students, began our career at South Windsor High School, and Mr. Greg¬ ory Plunkett assumed the position of Vice-Principal. Since those early years, we have grown in many ways as has our respect for Mr. Plunkett. As Prin¬ cipal, he listened to our problems, cared about us, and was involved in all facets of our school life. We the Class of 1979 therefore dedicate the Centur¬ ion to Mr. Plunkett, a man of honor, dignity, and fairness, who we thank for his guidance and will not soon forget. i«4mV ' Wv MUM • ' ' ' W.nw I’ , w ' «11 i vu ■. !• 44 - 11 } aiitiil ilillllMliin reason and calm judgement the qualities specially belonging to a leader ADMINISTRATION DR. ROBERT W. GOLDMAN MR. DONALD C. MERCURE Business Manager As you complete this important phase of your education it would be only natural for each of you to pause and reflect upon these years of school and the influence they have had upon your life. I would hope that each of you finds her or himself prepared for the next role in your life. I would further hope that you will begin to feel the loss of an important part of your life — teachers, classes, music, sports, friends, games, dances, and all the other unique expe¬ riences that you have had in your school life. Many, many people have worked hard and with dedication to provide these experiences for you. Besides teachers, your parents and members of the community have supported your education and look to you as the future leaders of our community and Nation. I am convinced that that trust is not mis¬ placed and that our future will be secure in your hands. Robert W. Goldman, Ph.D. Superintendent of Schools 22 MR. JOHN N. THOMAS Associate Principal MR. WILLIAM L. PERRY Assistant Superintendent of Schools MS. JOSEPHINE A. KELLEHER Associate Principal MR. GREGORY J. PLUNKETT It seems almost impossible that you, the class of 1979, are ready to graduate from High School. I’ve enjoyed working and learning with you during the last three years and I wish you all the best for the future. Many of you have become more than just members of a class, you have become friends and it is not easy to watch you graduate and leave South Windsor High School. Your class has done many things very well. Right from the start of your senior year you have, worked diligently to make the year a suc¬ cess. The officers you elected have served you well and are a credit to the class of 1979. As you leave South Windsor High School, go with the confidence that we care about you and are proud of you. The success you have had here and the maturity and good judgement you have demonstrated make me confident that you will be successful in the future. Gregory J. Plunkett Principal fc 1 U Id hJ H - MR. It was three days before Christmas, a Friday infact. The homerooms were crowded, the auditorium packed. School had begun as it usually does. Everyone was overjoyed only because . . . The season is here, Greetings to all! Right before spring, soon after fall. It had finally snowed, Mr. Rioux was glad. The Outing Club trips wouldn’t be that bad. The spirit is here, everyone could see in Ms. Ewing’s room, there’s a Hawaiian Christmas tree. Mr. Plunkett looked on with joy and delight, but soon he was scared by an uncanny sight. It was Saint Nicholas Lesbines from his music room. He jumped up the stairs and fell with a boom. On Whole Note!! On Half Note!! He yelled, without rest. His Christmas Concert had been a success! The Band played the music, the crowd stood and cheered. They played some good sounds for a man with a beard. At Wapping, Christmas was only the best. Miss Duffy refused to give out a test. In the halls, carols are heard from stairwell C. Was it Vocal Ensemble? No, Mr. B. A party’ was held by Miss Harding and such, although the excitement wasn’t too much. Mrs. Fleming was there to write to Santa Claus. Of course, she wrote a rough draft, without even a pause. Mr. Locario’s spirit was such a great sight. He’d make a good Santa Claus, if his mustache was white. The Seniors were dressed with their red and their green. Told they looked nice they said — we know what you mean. Yea, the spirit was there, you could see, you could tell!! From the French rooms was heard “Joyeux Noel!” It was really different, there was no time to sigh. Mrs. Whitlock answered calls with “Merry Christmas — South Windsor High” When Coach Sharos was asked if he wanted the same, he said, “My present this year, was my 300th game!” Well, one thing is for sure, like that Old North Star, the Morning Announcements were great, as they usually are. — Bill Morrissette THE CLASS OF 1980 FIRST ROW: D. SOFTBALL •sS a i ' S C HIGH SCHOOL CLASS L STATE CHAMPION On June 10, 1978, at Raybestos Field in Stratford, the South Windsor High girls’ softball team won the Class L State Championship with a convinc¬ ing 9-2 victory over Cheshire. This state championship was the first in the history of girls’ athletics at South Windsor High. Jill Snyder yielded only two hits in notching her eigh¬ teenth win of the season, while Amy Oberg led the offensive attack, going two for three at bat, including a two-run dou¬ ble. The team posted the only perfect record in the state in 1978, going undefeated in twenty-one games.
