O- y l ' CENTURION 1976 SOUTH WINDSOR HIGH SCHOOL SOUTH WINDSOR, CONNECTICUT Introduction . 2 Dedication . 6 Appreciation . 8 Faculty . 9 Seniors . 29 Underclassmen .93 Student Activities . 113 Social Events . 127 Sports . 141 Sponsors . 173 Staff.188 IN ITS BRIEF COURSE LIE ALL THE REALITIES AND TRUTHS OF EXISTENCE THE JOY OF GROWTH THE SPLENDOR OF ACTION THE GLORY OF POWER FOR YESTERDAY IS BUT A MEMORY AND TOMORROW IS ONLY A VISION BUT TODAY WELL LIVED MAKES EVERY YESTERDAY A MEMORY OF HAPPINESS AND EVERY TOMORROW A VISION OF HOPE LOOK WELL, THEREFORE, TO THIS DAY! 5 most (people simply can’t) won’t(most parent people mustn’t shouldn’t) daren’t — e.e. cummings The person to whom the yearbook is dedicated defies the image set forth in this poem. He has dared to be himself, to show us what he genuinely is. We’ve had the privilege to know and be influenced by someone whose humanity and honesty are overwhelming — a man whose determination to act according to his own beliefs will be an inspiration to us always. It has been said that a man’s greatness is determined in part by the impression he leaves on the lives of those who have known him. The effects this man has had on us are magnificent. He has assured us that — as individuals — our uniqueness is sacred. He has made us not only recognize our talents and potential, but also realize that to be happy we must use these to their utmost. He has taught us that to maintain an appreciation of living one must face problems with a smile and a readiness to laugh at oneself. After spending a short time with this man, one exits with greater self-confidence, a brighter outlook and an acknowledgement of his own personal importance. The class of 1976 expresses deep appreciation to Mr. Eric Haffner. 7 “The world is a looking glass and gives back to every man the reflection of his own face, frown at it, and it in turn will look sourly upon you; laugh at it and with it and it is a jolly, kind companion.” Dr. Robert Goldman — Superintendent Mr. William Perry — Assistant Superintendent A D M I N I S T R A T I O N Mr. William Spohn — Principal Mr. John Thomas — Vice-Principal Mr. Donald Mercure — Business Manager Mr. Robert Horan — Vice-Principal GUIDANCE Mr. Thomas Marlin Jr. Miss Donna Adcock Mr. William Chernick Miss Frema Mancher “Patience and perserverance surmount every dif¬ ficulty.” Mrs. Francis Charllon — Guidance Clerk Mrs. Kay Biancucci — Guidance Clerk U ENGLISH Mr. Samuel Garro Mr. Harland Cass Mrs. Dorothy Martyn Mr. Steven Stoklosa Mr. Arthur Woods Jr ENGLISH Mr. James Woodworth Mrs. Mary Tucker Mrs. Sandra Ginnis Mr. Phillip Locario 14 Mrs. Sharon Heard Miss Ann Duffy Mr. Arthur Cloutman MATH Mr. Albert Obue Mr. Joseph Krawski Mr. Peter Anderson ‘Success is based on imagination plus ambition and the will to work” 15 Mr. Robert Joy Mrs. Linda Mellone SOCIAL STUDIES Miss Sharon Moran Miss Rita Sarnowski Mr. Edward Florio “Train a child when they are young and when they old they will not depart from it” 16 Mr. Robert Pennell Miss Judith Kallman Mr. Verne Olson Mr. Craig Hotchkiss Mr. Salvatore Randazzo ' Mr. Alan Benford 17 SCIENCE Mrs. Jacklyn Bonneau Mr. Ronald Rioux Mrs. Helen Heard Mr. John Nishan Mr. Robert Manz Mr. Lawrence Brown Mrs. Maria Moreno 18 i FOREIGN LANGUAGE Mrs. Norma Curtis No one can be happy unless he feels in some way important Miss Janice Bertuzzi Mrs. Margaret Darrow Mrs. Melanie Cunningham Mrs. Constance Mellen Mrs. Lin Bieback Miss. We are the children born from these, and shall remain so in remembering what we have left behind — smiles that caught us running, eyes that watched us learning, minds that taught us dreams, and frowns that watched our frustrations. Empty rooms catch the dust of our shoes, reminding us our souls have been shaken — there is no need to tell us the day will not stand the same anymore. We may catch up with time for one long moment and study what has been, only to turn and find tomorrow unleashing itself upon us at its mercy, while today has passed by without a trace. Suzanne Doering
