Vi Underclassmen Activities Irbcial Events . Sports . . . 5 ?4 Reflections. . . “Some men see things as they are and say why? I dream ; things that never were and say why not?” Robert F. Kennedy It was the best of times, It was the worst of times. It was the age of wisdom, It was the age of foolishness. Charles Dickens It was the time of unity, It was the time of individuality, It was the spring of hope. It was the winter of despair, We had everything before us. We have everything before us We will cross the bridges of life. | We have crossed the bridges of j youth. Seldom has any person gained the deep respect and confidence that Mr. Lawrence A. Brown has in three brief years. Mr. Brown has organized the largest and one of the most successful groups, the Outing Club. Throughout our senior year he has aided us in our social events and activities, not only as an advisor, but as a real friend. His youthful ideas, leadership and individuality have strengthened the student—teacher relationship. In appreciation for your untiring devotion, we, the Class of 1969, sincerely wish to thank you by dedicating our CENTURION to you, Mr. Brown. 6 ADMINISTRATION $ Assistant Superintendent Superintendent SERVICES Office Secretary Office Secretary Guidance Secretary Head Custodian Guidance Secretary GUIDANCE ; . REFLECTIONS ON A JUNE AFTERNOON I sit in the sultry classroom- The shimmering hotness of the sun Filtering through the window, Creating segmented patterns of light on my desk. The solitary track shines dustily Against the drying grass; Trees along the courtyard wave In response to hot breezes. A bird with shiny red and black feathers glides uncertainly, Lighting, yet taking flight again. I too, like the bird, am torn with indecision. Prepared to stand alone? I think yes. Yet life is confusion. No more are things black or white. I sometimes grope my way through a maze Frantically searching a way out- Often I find it-—but what if I falter? Endless chambers are being added on to this maze of life. Will pages of hastily scribbled notes become knowledge? Can inborn prejudices erode and understanding grow instead? Will childish doubts emerge as certainty? Am I ready to carry my crosses? Have I learned to live? 67 CLASS BALLOT MOST BASHFUL Dennis McLaughlin Barbara Russak MOST OPTIMISTIC Vincent Prestileo Debbie Roy MOST SOCIABLE Jeffrey Holcombe Barbara Jarvis 68 MOST ATHLETIC George Fortin Cathy Boyle MOST UNIQUE Debbie Hill Michael Cersosimo MOST CHANGED FROM FRESHMAN YEAR Pat Sullivan Mark Maulucci BEST MANNERED Joyce Kasheta Jeffrey Holcombe 69 MOST TALKATIVE Paul Ierna Judy Smart MOST ARTISTIC Lynn Grossi Greg Bowman CLASS WIT Cathy Boyle John Longo BEST NATURED Vincent Prestileo Barbara Jarvis 70 MOST LIKELY TO SUCCEED Jeffrey Holcombe Susan Roman MOST MUSICAL Barbara Elliot Bob Singer CLASS CLOWNS Cathy Boyle Paul Ierna BEST DANCERS Lynn Grossi Michael Cersosimo MOST SINCERE Jeffrey Holcombe Margi Linko MOST VERSATILE Lynn Grossi Jeffrey Holcombe BEST DRESSED Frank Young Joyce Kasheta CONTRIBUTED MOST TO THE SCHOOL Jeffrey Holcombe Pat Sullivan BEST EXCUSE MAKERS Judy Smart Paul Ierna UNDERCLASSMEN FRESHMAN CLASS OFFICERS President .Walter Booth Vice-President .Gary Waldron Secretary .Robin Sandenburg Treasurer.Maureen O’Neil JUNIOR CLASS OFFICERS Vice-President .Gary Sayers President .Gail Viklinetz Secretary .Pam Castetter Treasurer.Kevin Kelly SOPHOMORE CLASS OFFICERS President .Dave Lacey Secretary .Kathy Staiger Treasurer.Lucia Barber Vice-President .Richard Silver i ♦ BRIDGES TO ACCOMP . - - - ■■ t ■ •, ■ • ... ■■ it,i fP 0WM - ■ ' J- Si ■ Mil 5 i ■ ?S!i ....... ...5 -- . Bobcats Crush Farmington No Turnin’ Back Now BV GORDON SMITH •Sports Editor Brisioi — Like a iamb, suddenly pounced upon by a Bobcat, previously undefeated Farmington High never knew what hit it Friday night in the headliner of the Class B state tournament quarter-final round at beautiful Bristol Central High. Tuned and coached to a razor sharp likeness. South Wind sor’s basketball team figuratively blew the Indians off the court like a cyclone ripping a town to splinters. It wasn’t even a close match as Coach Charlie Sharos’ seventh ranked Bobcats tore into the third-ranked Indians for an 81-60 victory, thus earning the right to meet defending cham¬ pion and pretourney favorite Middletown Wednesday night at Central Connecticut State College in New Britain. Roy Simply Fantastic Sophomore sensation and All-State certainty Tommy Roy was simply fantastic as he employed his six-foot, seven-inch frame to score a career-high 43 points, just two short of the record established at South Windsor by Jim Baker in 1965 Roy hit for the truly remarkable percentage of 78, making 18 field goals in 23 attempts and adding seven foul shots in 10 trys. Yet he wasn ' t the whole show—just the hit of the show Never before this season had the Bobcats put together such a team effort. Stoddard Goes Wild Rermy Burger, Terry Stoddard, John Mason and John Bossi were exceptional. Stoddard actually provided the ’Cats with all the momentum they needed when he went on a wild scoring spree, connecting on his first three shots at the beginning of the game from difficult range. ‘ Burger was the key to the 43-point output by Roy. Kenny racked up a total of 14 assists as he fed Roy with beautiful passes all night and ret up a couple of other shots for Mason and Stoddard. Burger played what might be termed his best game of the year, despite scoring only five points, Renny pulled down 14 re¬ bounds, second only to Roy ' s 19. If Renny dot ' s that against Middletown, said his elated teammate Roy, we ' ll surprise a tot of people.” Burger was a titan in the first half with 11 rebounds, eight assists and on defense. Bossi Tough Again Boss! also was outstanding on the boards, grabbing 10 missed shots, in addition to scoring six points and placing a fine defensive ballgame. Mason, who does much damage due to his aggressive, scrappy style, did even more by scoring 14 points—including 10 for 13 from the foul lim and making five steals. John ' s major asset is quick hands, and he ' s used them to South Windsor s advantage in both tournament games thus far. It will be- remembered that it was Mason—who likes to be called Duke —that saved South from defeat in the first round by stealing the ball five times in the final quarter against Simsbury. Was Over Early Going into the running score of Friday’s game wouldn ' t serve any purpose, for it was all over as quickly as it started. South took a first period lead of 24-11, increased it to 49-23 at half- time and 59-30 midway through the third period. Farmington had won all 20 games it had played previously, 19 in the regular season and a first round tourney game over Kiiiingly of Danielson. Over 1,800 saw the game including South Wind¬ sor Superintendent of Schools Charles Warner, who exclaimed to Sharos after the game: “We have a Board of Education meeting Wednesday, but we’ll have to call it off now, That’s the night South meets Middletown. Daggett Leads Indians Farmington’s high scorer was Wayne Daggett with la points, nine coming in the final quarter when South relaxed and some of the starters were taken out of the game. South made only three more field goals than Farmington (28-23), but again, Farmington made eight of those in the last quarter after making only nine in the entire first half when South hit for 16. Also in double figures for Farmington were Mike Leary with 13 and Dave Folio with 10. The Indians’ much publicized Gary Timura scored nine, six in the second half.
