R16 06 Class History As we review the pleasant memories of bygone days, we are reminded of the friendships and acquaintances we enjoyed at South Whitehall. As Sophomores in 1938, we re-elected Steven Plarr, President ofthe class, Edward Bortz was elected Vice President, Helen Messner, Secretaryg and Viola Reinsmith, Treasurer. , The first real event was a field trip to the Reading Museum. Both boys and girls took an active part in sports. The cheerleaders were: Sophie Wenninger, Jeanne Bittner, June Borman, and Ferne Bortz. During this year several students joined the Trumpet Staff. This staff was increased with more of our members during the next two years. With Alton HoiTman in the lead, some of the students of our class joined the debating team under Mr. Meckley's guidance. Gradually a change took place and we found we were becoming more dignified . With this change we realized we were Juniors and had only two more years of school. During the first few weeks of school, Steven Plarr was re-elected President of the Ju Vice President, Helen Messner, Se As Juniors, two of the class Musselman, played a part in the In October, we frolicked a day Junior play, Early To Bed, Ea themselves by presenting a very i William Kokolus, Edward Bo Edward Stoudt became varsity ba During the spring, South White dio and we found we had many was, A Day At South Whitehall. Sylvia P. Wertman We shall always remember the advice and support given to the sen- ior class by Miss Wertman. Much time and effort on her part and the guidance in our financial aiairs made possible our goal. Also, her guidance and understanding have helped in gaining our achievements. The capability with which she handled the financial end of the class will always be appreciated. Austin M. Schaefer In appreciation of the interest which Mr. Schaeffer has shown, the senior class wishes to thank him for his innumerable services. a At all our dances Mr. Schaeffer has been a chaperone and has seen that order and peace was preserved. The seniors also wish to thank Mr. Schaeffer for his willingness to aid and boost our class. On, '

011151. As Juniors, we outdid ourselves in playing hosts to the Senior class at our annual prom. The unusual artistic arrangement, which we used to beautify the gym for the prom, was exquisite and created an elaborate ef- fect. With our gymnasium decorated in an early European manner, we danced to the rhythm of Bob Kurtz. The Senior Class elected Alton Hoffman, President, William Kokolus, Vice Presidentg Helen Messner, Secretary and Lucille Hummel, Treasurer. The next event of the year was to elect an Editor-in-Chief of the Year- book. Marie Bittner capably filled this position. The entertaining play, Aunt Tillie Goes To Town, was presented by the Debating Club. A new idea, the novelty Christmas Party for the grade children, was pre- sented by the Seniors. The class also was very active selling Christmas cards, Christmas candy, dance and movie tickets, writing paper, and Easter candy. The Varsity Basketball Team was comprised of John Odunchock, Wil- liam Kokolus, Edward Stoudt, Steven Plarr, Ernest Lichtenwalner, Leon Whitaker and Edgar Frankenfield.
