One of the highlights of Homecoming week is Thursday night when the student body gathers to watch the burning of the traditional bonfire, constructed by the Senior guys. Each year the Student Council sells chances, according to class, for the right to toss the dummy into the flames. The Senior class bought the most chances, thus earning this privilege. In the past, the announcement of the Homecoming queen was saved until halftime of the football game on Friday night. However, this custom was broken in 1981 when the queen was presented to the student body at a formal coronation ceremony on the first day of Homecoming week. This enabled her to reign over all Homecoming activities. This year’s court included: Freshman attendant, Tonya Helt; Sophomore attendant, Tonnie DeFreitas; Junior attendant, Shelly Brown; and Senior candidates, Leigh Ann Dowell and Sherry Peters. The 1981 Homecoming Queen was Lisa Inman. She was crowned by Student body president Robin See and was also presented at halftime of the Homecoming football game.  omecoming Week '81 was brought to an exciting close with the football victory over Rockville on Friday and the traditional semi- formal dance held in the SV foyer on Saturday night. 150 couples danced the night away to the music of the band “Breakpoint”. Reigning over the night’s festivities was the 1981 Homecoming Queen Lisa “Pete” Inman and her court. The theme for the evening was carried out well in the decorations and picture setting. Sponsored by the SV Cheer Club, the 1981 Homecoming dance was a great success and will remain a cherished memory for those who attended. 12 (Above) Seniors Candy Fortune, Brent Burdick, Traci Amerman and Junior Jami Malone jam to the beat of the band's music.
