After much feuding and verbal differences they selected a suitable class ring. The decision- No Prom --caused long faces for a time but everyone survived. As Seniors only lZ9 remained to compete for graduation glories. J, , ' l One evening sitting in my easy chair I picked up the daily paper which one of the Keiser boys had lust d livered After looking at the date September I I9oO a familiar name caught my eye It was that of John Harry Colbert who had long been an outstanding journalist in the employe of the Associated Press I immediately put on my specks and settled myself for a half hour of enjoyment for it was an article dealing with my old class mates alumni of South Union High School class of 43 lt read as follows After seventeen years of very strenuous activity my employers de cided that it would be better to give me a vacation than to send me to a saniiarium Consequently I decided to make a leisurely tour of the United States and look up my old high school classmates Of course the old high school building lwhich I had spent four happy years inl had long since been replaced by a fine new modern stru ture but several of the old gang were still there though of course not as pupils Dr June Lohr is now prin cipal and amona her corps of efficient teachers are Amana Hess head of the French Department Edward Korona Professor of Physics and Joseph Walla and Ruth Johnson Instructors in Commerc al subjects Regina Pat terson and Clara Paptick are the proprietors of the little store across the street Leaving the old alma mater I trudged down through town toward the bus station As I passed the Swank Hotel I met Ralph Grove the owner who was on his way out to lunch to meet his lawyers Donald Sneddon Rob ert Shaw and Mervin Shoaf to talk over his case that was to come up in court the next week Ilt seems that Donald Schnatterly was suing him for damages done to his best and only suit when faulty plumbing caused water to drip down through the ceiling into the closet containing the suit Of course Mr. Grove had called in the plumber Mike Feher and had offered to buy Mr, Schnatterly a new suit but still Don hung on to his case,l Since I had a few minutes before bus time I strolled into the new modernized drug store on Main Street which is now under the managem nt of James Wynn. From him I learned that Donald Milne is his assistant pharmacist while the lunch counter is under the skilled direction of Marian Reese and Roberta Martin, While I sipped my coke in walked the former Lillian Goldberg with her triplets for their daily milk shakes. Lillian came over to tell me all the latest happenings in the town. From her bits of gossip I learned that Frank Marcus now owned a large shipyard and that Frances White Genevieve Jirva Helen Gasda Olive Mae Sipole Wanda Jean Fetcho Eileen Knoblock Dorothy Swaney and Eleanor Tumulty had been married since the end of the war. We took off and after a few minutes of smooth sailing the plane developed engine trouble. Soon I was on the bus headed for Washington. David Stout was the bus driver and say-could he drivel Ivan Raymond sat beside me part of the way. He was going to Cumberland on business since he now managed the Summit Hotel. When we reached Fred- ericktown we pickea up several passengers and among them was Lilybell Asbury.She was going to Baltimore to take an interior decorating job. Upon arriving in Washington I boarded a streetcar so that I could go to Miss Hardy s office. Charles Kope the conductor of the streetcar took my ticket and talked to me when he recognized me.
