He was lost and sometimes he was lonely. He had a lot to learn — like how to get from agricul- ture to gym in three minutes and live to tell it. . .or that seniors don ' t have lunch- room line break privileges. . .or which teachers get violent over chewing gum. He knew a lot, too. He knew where to sit in the auditorium, and how to stack a locker, and most importantly, he knew who he was-nobody. He was the bottom step-the lowest man on the pole. And it was a long way to the top.
