What do you do in school? Often we hear that question. Well, this book is an attempt to answer that question. Here we shall attempt to summarize the activities, in and out of class, that high school people engage in - curricular, extra-curricular, and non- curricular. We'll use some words and a lot of pictures. We'll try to give the reader a kind of conducted tour of the school. We hope that for outsiders, this book will be a revelation of the thousand- and-one things that go to make up the life of our high school community. For the student readers, we hope that now and in years to come the book will recall many pleasant memories. Kindness, friendliness, and cleverness are only a few of the many wonderful traits possessed by Mr. Allan Gower. His individuality is one of the main reasons he is so well-known and liked by the faculty and student body. Mr. Gower graduated from Hamline University in 1928, where he took a leading part in turning out the school paper. After graduation, he had the wonderful experience of teaching school for two years in Puerto Rico. The South St. Paul high school has had the privilege of having him as a member of its faculty for twenty-four years. Besides teaching senior English and joumalism, he is advisor to the school paper, the Hi Times, and to the Kaposia. His classes are enjoyed by all, for he possesses a sense of humor and knack which can make even the dullest English literature interesting to the students. He has also visited England, which fact enables him to relate many interesting facts about the country and its people. Mr. Gower is also coach of the South St. Paul high school tennis team. His hard work and determination have made tennis a prominent and successful sport of the school. The seniors are very proud to have chosen such an outstanding person to be their teacher of the year. Therefore we, the Class of '56, dedicate the Kaposia to Mr. Allan Gower.
