September 19 Penalty stricken South Sioux was defeated 12-0 by Schuyler, on Dad's night, the first home game. September 26 The Cardinals were outsmarted by the tricky ball hand- ling of Norfolk and were shut out. 32-0. October 3 Homecoming fans saw an underdog Redbird team fight to a 13-13 tie against a tough Lincoln Pius ballclub in the season's top thriller. October 10 The Cards had the distinction of being the first team this year to force the red-hot Bulldogs to punt, but lost by 40-0 on die LeMars field. October 17 The Redbirds fared well on the Leeds gridiron by downing the rival Lancers by a score of 27-6. October 31 The Cardinals, minus the activity of eight players, lost to a tough Holy Name team by a score of 40-13. November 7 The Redbirds wound up the season with a loss at the hands of Bellevue by a score of 27-14. SUMMARY • South Sioux lost a tough, first game of the basketball season on Dec. 5, to a highly rated Lemars team on the Card's floor. • The South Sioux Cardinals won their first game by a margin of 56-41 over Leeds in the South Sioux gym. • The Cards pulled through with a 55 to 44 victory in an exciting game with Blair on the Redbirds floor Jan. 6, by the score of 61-41. • A strong Heelan team defeated the Cards by a score of 77-39 on the Crusaders floor Dec. 20. • South Sioux was overpowered by the Onawa Bulldog's on the Cards floor Jan. 6, 61-49. • The Redbirds traveled to Schuyler Jan. 9, to defeat the Schuyler ballclub 61-41. • A cold South Sioux ball team was defeated by a red-hot Leeds team, there, on Jan. 16, 54-41. • South Sioux rambled over Bishop Ryan of Omaha by a score of 62-30 at Omaha on Jan. 17. • A highly favored Holy Name team slipped past the Cards by a score of 50-43. • The Redbirds were squeezed out by Bellevue 41-39 at Bellevue on Jan. 30. • South Sioux edged Blair in an overtime on Blair floor by a close 61-60, on Jan. 31. • The Cards pulled through the second close game in a row by defeating Wayne, here, by a score of 64-63, on Feb. 6. • South Sioux was humbled by a hot East team on the Cards floor by a score of 71-51, Feb. 10. • The Redbirds were beaten in the last few minutes of the most exciting game of the season by Heelan on the Card's floor by a score of 56 to 51. • South Sioux broke existing city, team and individual scoring records by beating Tekamah on the home floor Feb. 20 by a score of 106-49. A newcomer to South Sioux, Jim Keefer, scored 52 points in this game. • Norfolk broke a losing streak Feb. 27. by making two free throws at the last second, in defeating the Redbirds, there, by a score of 54-52.
