Student Council In Action This year, Student Council has been very active in school affairs. They sponsored the Homecoming festivities and gave prizes for the two best class displays. The Student Council has sponsored all assem- blies — National and School convocations. They sponsored “Twirp Week” and the dance. Together with the Student Councils of the Sioux City schools, they have organized an Intra- City Council. Here the councils discuss prob- lems of their schools and projects of the Coun- cils. Problems are worked out and suggestions are given to solve difficulties that arise. Another project was a ule 1 ide Queen Con- test to raise money for Pete’s Feeder. One boy from each English class was chosen for the con- test. During the week the voting took place after school. On Friday before Christmas vacation, the “S” Club sponsored a dance, at which time, the Yule Tide Queen, Lawrence Wolf, was crown- ed. Also, Student Council sponsored the March of Dimes auction during the Polio Drive in heb- ruary. The main project of the Student Council this year was to erect a bulletin board and directory for the first floor. It was built by Allen Beermann. An important part of their work was that of trying to bring closer relationships between teachers and students. Also in trying to have the students bring their problems and complaints to the Student Council, so they could try to do something about it in meetings with teachers, eroups, or with the school administration. The Pep Club The South Sioux City High School Pep Club has 88 active members up to date, and is noted as one of the finest organizations of its kind in this area. A pep club member must pay dues according to the cost of admission to all football and basketball games, home and away. The Pep Club Council consists of the President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, and class repre- sentatives. The Council takes action in elimination of those who disobey the rules. South Sioux’s Pep Club is the only pep club in this locality that charters busses to all out of town games. The expense is paid from profits of the con- session stand for home games and the after-school canteen. An approximate total of $1500 a year is consumed in chartered busses. The Cardinal emblem is also furnished by the club itself. Pep Club membership is open to any boy or girl in high school who is interested in a worthwhile organi- zation that forms the backbone of a good team and school. P. Orton, Soph. Rep.; P.
