Faced with a tough schedule, the Cards turned in a most creditable performance. Their record of four wins and fourteen losses does not indi- cate their desire, hustle, and team play which characterized them through- out the season. Highlight of the season was the Cards victory over the Leeds Lancers 54 41. This was the first time in four years the Cards were able to beat the Lancers. Ronnie Bartels, Merlyn Haase, and Duane Garner led the attack. Another important win came in the District Tourney at Norfolk. The Cardinals were playing Albion and had a safe fifteen point margin, then something exploded and Albion scored fourteen points while the Cards were not scoring any. Duane Garner saved the game by making a remarkable tip-in making the final score 49—45 in favor of the Cards Seniors graduating, and their shoes are going to be mighty hard to fill, were Ronnie Bartels, Duane Garner, Gordon Bierman, Don Aames, and Bill Cole. The following boys are expected to fill in capably for those absent from next year’s squad: Larry Miller, Rich Trudell, Charles Cox, Phil Garner, Larry DeRoin, Dennis Nelson, Tom Welsh, Rod Robertson and other members up from the “B” squad.
