1955-1956 BASKETBALL SUMMARY This basketball season proved to be the most successful in the past three years, mainly because of the whole squad’s intense desire to win. Every individual on the ball club played an instrumental part in racking up eight wins as against ten losses. The high point of the season was the Wisner game in which the Cardinals scored ninty-four points to set a South Sioux High School record. Of those ninty-four Bob Krumwiede contributed thirty-four and Rich Tinker thirty-two, their high scoring efforts for the year. During the season Lyle Archer was the field general of the ball club. In the District Tournament at Schuyler against Columbus he hit his season high of twenty points. Jim Melvin, Bill Cole, and Charlie Reed were probably the most consistent rebounders throughout the season. Merlyn Haase, Kenny Viers, Duane Garner, and Ronnie Bartels were the most capable reserves any ball club could desire. They could be counted on to go into a ball game and do just as well as one of the regular five. The loss of six senior lettermen, Krumwiede, Tinker, Archer, Melvin, Reed, and Viers will leave quite a vacancy. The four juniors who will be counted on to fill this vacancy are lettermen. Cole, Haase, Garner, Bartels, and members up from the “B” squad. Rich Berggren, the varsity’s manager, did a very capable job during the season. Pre-Game Huddle
