1955 FOOTBALL SUMMARY A scrappy group of high school foot- ballers assembled on the Cardinal aractice field two weeks prior to school to cut out a fine football season for the students and many fans of the Cardinal school. The lads were small in stature but large in desire and fight. ' The season's end saw them as a powerful team amassing wins over Hawarden, Leeds, Vermillion, Pierce, and tying a powerful unbeaten Wayne team. The season’s record was 4-4-1 and a first place tie in the Tri-State Conference. A few other statistics are: South Sioux out scored their opponents 146-126, had twenty- one letterwinners, three All-City players, and one All-State honorable mention berth. Bean. -reaUmciH football 1955 The first week of school, over thirty eager, young, and hopeful football play- ers turned out for the Freshman foot- ball squad. With sizes ranging from over 200 pounds to under 100 pounds, the job of getting in shape and working on fundamentals began. If determination and spirit were the only factors in winning ball games, this group of gridmen would have gone un- defeated. Their record of 0-5 does not in- dicate their desire and willingness to play the game and in the next few years of their high school career should be- come— Champions all the Way.
