POWER : . s -: Facilities Renovated, Expanded As shown in the 1958 yearbook picture, a modern oil unit was installed to replace the old stoker heating plant of earlier days. South Side, in a sketch from the first Totem, was the first building of its kind in lort Wayne. Mainly a one-story building, it was the second high school to open in the city, following Central. As the third renovation program progressed, the new auditorium was completed. The auditorium with a capacity of more than 850 people, was used during programs, such as the senior class play and various concerts, staged by the classes in the new instrumental and vocal music and drama rooms. 16 The 1938 Totem shows the construction of the second story.
