They arei Labe Scheinberg, Mildred Roberts, Auben Burkhart, Elizabeth Vick, Russell Bryant, Betty Watts, Dorothy Davis, Mary Rose Smith, Ianice Wender, Charles Moon, Alfred Marko- witz, Alpha Carothers, Iack Lutz, and Yvonne Mc- Gehee. One of the editors-in-chief of The Triple S , Labe Scheinberg, made the second honor in the senior class and also won the S125 scholarship fund offered by Southwestern. Russell Bryant, the president of the Club, made the first honor. Four of the seven members elected by the senior class to the Scrapper Staff were on The Triple S Staff. They are Russell Bryant, Mildred Roberts, Betty Watts, and lack Lutz, At the meeting in April, plans were made for the annual banquet which was held at the Parkview Hotel April 27. Russell Bryant, the president, acted as master of ceremonies and introduced each person with a clever poem written by Reese Wells. After the banquet the members of The Triple S Staff, the Scrapper Staff, and of the Iournalism Club with their invited friends at the banquet were guests of Miss Allenworth's at the Memphis Little Theatre. Tlie faculty members included Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Gnuse, Mrs, Mary B. McGoldrick, Miss Mary Miller, and Miss Mildred Keith. Gloria Shefsky, the associate editor in 1942, gave a humorous reading. Miss Allensworth then presented journalism pins to Mildred Roberts, Labe Scheinberg, Auben Burkhart, Reese Wells, Ianice Wender, lean' nette Terrell, Iean Renardet, Margaret Warlick, Dor- othy Davis, and Ioe Cocke. The money made from The Triple S sales is used for a scholarship fund which will help some student from South Side to attend college next fall. Almost every dag' the walls of the gym resounded to the bustle ot serious activity and the peal of joy- ous, healthy laughter, tor the girls of the physical education classes knew how to combine successfully their work and play. Realizing the importance of good health, especially in wartime, each girl tried to keep her health on the highest standard, Daily exercise and participation in all sports--fbasketball, volleyball, softball, tumbling, marching, pingpong, and archery enabed them to accomplish this goal. The newest and one ot the most interesting activ- ities carried on this year was the Archery Club. This club was formed to provide recreation for the archery enthusiasts here at South Side High, and practice ses- snt in Sim llllfll Stiwm. Alexantier, Thelina 'l'aylm', Helen 0sti'anriei', Marrzaret Hanna, lmris llepnlt, Mary Elizahetli Hurd, Marcella Rielly, and Katherine Womlrttff. Marpzaret Chilriress, Faye Lowe, Wanda Harher, Ora Lee flatwaway, Ilmwitliy Height, Katherine Height, Helen Iiir-liawls. and Bobbie Jean Allen. SPORTS sions were conducted both ii, the gym classes and after school. Members ot the Archery Club were: lean McDaniel, Annie Ruth Vaughn, Clara Mae Ford, Frances Powell, Betty lane Gaia, Christine Bailey, Betty Kilgore, Dorothy Webb, Doris lones, Natalie Cockrott, and Carol Symons. it, by chance, one heard the expression tree Day by some gleetul student, no doubt that student was also a gym student. For on 'tree days the deans of tive and sweet reigned supreme in the old gym. Every phase of dancing from folk dancing to jitterbugging captured the fancy of the physical ed hep-cats and provided unlimited enjoyment tor all. As the gala May Day Festival brought another years activities to a thrilling climax, each girl could look back and review the events of an enjoyable and successful gym yearwa year that will long be a pleasant reminder in her high school memories.
