GIRLS' PHYSICAL EDUCATICN CLUB The girls' gym classes were taught this year by Miss Marjorie Hugo, who took Miss Lenore Sandling's place. A varied program was offeredin the classes as well as in intramural activities. A club was formed consisting of girls who are the leaders, and who participate in most ofthe physical education activities. The Club was very active this year in raising money for the girls' department as well as taking charge of the Volley Ball and Basketball tourneys. The girls' Pep Squad which drilled at the football ga mes was also made up of these girls and others. The four classes this year were divided into two for beginners and two for advanced. The beginners had health lessons one day a week, while the advanced had hygiene two days a week one semester, and first aid the second semester. The remaining period spent in gym class was taken up by the following activities: marching, calisthenics, folk-dancing, singing games, relays, group games, and study of fundamentals of the major sports. This year, the city held a May Festival. South Side is proud to say that she placed one hundred twenty-eight girls in a very formal and intricate dumbbell drill in which all the City High Schools performed .L FRONT ROW LEFI' TO RIGHT Laura Gary Helen Beeman Louise Fox Doris Feeble Carolyn LeMay Dorothy Robinson Elizabeth Vick Ieanne Chism Margaret Ann Curtis Came Mannus Minnette Schwartz Mabel Fowmlrle SECOND ROW Kathryn Smith Margaret Warlick Alpha Carothers Ieanette Terrell Bonnie Mae Dinwiddie Pearl Atkins Gertrude Morthland Shirley Musser Delores Iackson Lorraine Ilsley Martha Woods Ruby Taylor Mary Rose Smith THIRD ROW Betty Brewer Sarah Lemons Dorothy Iones Betty Watts Mary Louise Alford Frances Angleton Ruth Hinote Peggy Winborn FOURTH ROW Shirley Mc Hughes Gloria Lawhorn Dorothy Albert Dons lones Virginia Morgan Grace Armstrong Betty lane Gaia Lucille Martin Bobbie Yeager FIFTH ROW Miss Maryone Hugo faculty sponsor Lona lean McMurray Nell Fereday 72 . 1 I . i t ' I 1 ,.-f .
