THE SPANISH CLUB The annual organization of the Spanish Club sponsored by Mrs Doris Dorland was held in September The purpose of the club was to make pupils familiar with Spanish htstory language liter ature and customs and to stress the importance of our relationshtp with South American countries Officers for the fall term were Fred Creasy president Milton Addington vice president Margaret Brldges secretary Z E Rutherford treasurer Vlfglnld Thurmond reporter Mar garet Vassilico program chairman Peggy Marinus social chairman Mary Ieannette Wilson art chairman ln the fall the members had a wetner roast at Mrs Dorland s home At Christmas a party was held and the play Nacimlento was dramatized Spanish games and carols were sung after which refreshments were served During the term the plays Red Riding Hood Goldilocks The Three Bears and The Three Little Pigs were enacted at meetings of the club The Spanish Club offered a prize of three dollars to the student wrlting the best essay on Why Study Spanish? Miss Eckles Miss Cashin and Mr Gnuse acted as Judges and award ed Virginia Thurmond the prize president Martha McGinnis secretary Iames Radford treasurer Richard Iohnson reporter Fred Creasy program chalrman Mary Ieannette Wilson art chairman Carol Keller and Har old Williams co chairmen of the social committee Raymond McCrory contributed a number to the Pan American Day program when he sang Alla en el Rancho Grande accompanied with his guitar LE CERCLE FRANCAIS One of the fundamental reasons for the organization of the French Club last fall was to afford opportunlty for studying cultural material France has always been in the vanguard of civilization As C1Vll1Zdl101'1 is advanced by the work of individuals it seemed fittlng to study the tives of men some of them unfortunately little known at the present day whose genius has contributed to the knowledge and uplift of the human race Lavoisler the discoverer of oxygen and the Father of Chemistry Daguerre the inventor of photography and Louis Braille the inventor of a system of reading for the blind Of course Frances heroine Ieanne d Arc was not neglected The officers for the first term were President Margaret Ann Curtis Vice President Troy Hardy Secretary Carrie Mar1nus The officers for the second term were President Troy Hardy Vice President Vivian Ieter Secretary Nancy Fowler Treasurer Carrie Marinus Each term an efficient program committee has planned programs so well balanced be tween entertainment and culture that every meeting has been eagerly anticipated 6a Officers for the spring term were: Raymond McCrory, presidentg Milton Addington, vice- T E 1.
