IUNICB BED CBCSS CLUB Under the guidance of a new sponsor, Mr. H. lr Parish, the Iunior Bed Cross Council of South Side High School was organized for the new school year in the latter part of Septern- ber, l94O. Virginia Thurmond was chosen president to lead the council, Other officers elected were Mary Elizabeth Morthland viceepresident, Mildred Beeman secretary, Marion Beard treasurer, Elizabeth Thurmond and Helen Beeman co-chairmen of program and social com- mittees, and Fred Creasy, reporter. The representatives entered into the Boll Call Program whole-heartedly. With this new idea, the Honor Boom System at South Side was soon rated lUU:s in membership, For a Christmas project, the group again adopted the Brooks Memorial School in Canoe, Kentucky. Each home room chose a boy and girl from this school and played Santa Claus by sending many useful gifts, including clothing, books candy, and toys, Also the Art Department again responded 'wonderfully and made eighty Christmas menu covers for the Battleship U S S Tennessee Mr Ewing and Miss Hugo organized all star teams for Volley ball and basketball games and the Bed Cross received all proceeds Two matches were played one in lanuary and one in March ln the early Spring films and cameras were sent to the mountain school in Kentucky so that the students might have photographs made to send to their friends at South Side The South Side Chapter was represented by Bichard lohnson at the National Bed Cross Convention in Washington D C the week of April 2l 24 The Iunior Bed Cross members have had a busy year and they take this occasion to thank their friends for their kind co operation FRONT ROW LEFI' TO RIGHT Eloise Donaldson Marion Beard Mary Morthland Virginia Thurrnond Elizabeth Thurrnond Mildred Beeman Helen Beeman Vivian Ieter SECOND ROW Richard lohnson Newton Baskin Milton Addington Mary Lou Winters Richard Riddick Florence Berryhxll Virginia Allen Gertrude Morthland Mr H I Fansh Mariorxe Pearson Betty Watts Lawrence Waters Sam Weeks Fred Creasy Crate Beall Fred Kemper 57 .
