 PAULA NAOMI BROWN Paula, who hopes to become a famous ballerina, not only dances, but also sinus; is an enthusiastic member of Mixed Chorus. For sports she chooses skating. Others of Paula's hobbies are knitting and collecting stuffed animals. And. naturally, she loves to watch ballet dancing. PEARL BROWN Subjects preferred at South Side by Bobby” nave been English and business law. She's been too busy studying to have many sparetime activities, but when she relaxes it's to the music of jazz or rock 'n' roll. Basketball and baseball are her sports choices. SHIRLEY BROWN Education is a must,” says Shirl,” who intends becoming a nurse. Writing poetry und baking are her hobbies. She loves modern jazz and her favorite record is My Guy. Shirley is a member ol the Biology Club and the Youth Choir. French and U.S. History are top subjects. KENNETH BROXTON Monk expects to study to be a mortician. He's run on the cross-country, indoor, and outdoor track teams, been president of his class, a member of Cafeteria Staff. Recorder Staff, Service Club, and Good Foods Clubs. Football and auto racing are his chief sports. i CLAIRE BRYANT Denise” plans to attend a school for dieticians, then join the WAGS. She likes singing, jazz. Izitin-American music, and rock n' roll. Take Five” and Come To Me” ure musical favorites. Law and English have been her best subjects; baseball and kickbull, lier sports. MARVA BUCHANAN Bowling, swimming, basketball, football, and baseball are just a few of Marva's favorite sports. She is in the Mixed Chorus, her church's Inspiration Choir. French Club, and Library Staff, and plays on girls' basketball and bowling teams. She plans to major in sociology at college. 20

JOYCE BOWMAN “Chldde, a future student of Hampton Institute, can be found at all the football and basketball games, for she’s the cocaptain of tin Cheerleaders. A member of the French Club, Service Club, and the Executive Committee, she has favored the subjects of History and English. EVELYN DELORES BRANHAM Evelyn expects to furtlier her education after graduation from South Side. You'll often find her at her hall patrol post or cheering for our football team. Mathematics was her favorite school subject. Johnny Mathis is Evelyn’s idol in the entertainment field. V MILLS BRICCS Mills spends his spare time on electronics and hopes to become an electrical engineer. English, mathematics, and history were his main subjects; running on South Side’s track team was his athletic hobby. He likes jazz, football, basketball, Perry Mason and The Defenders.” KAREN BR(X)KS Karen expects to continue her education. She’s been a number of our Tennis Club, a devotee of jazz and rock ’n’ roll. She also craves sentimental tunes like My Cuy” and “Never Will 1 Marry. Algebru and basketball are tops. “Handsome is as handsome does,” she says. EDNA BROWN A member of the Optimist Staff, Biology Staff, South Side Twirlers, and homeroom senator, Ed” is treasurer of the the Phi Delta Chi Sorority. Her favorite subject is Business I .aw. She really digs jazz the roost, lists dancing and singmg as top spare-time activities. JOHN LESTER BROWN English is John’s top school subject. His aim is to go into the commercial art field. Naturally, his prime hobbies are drawing and painting posters. A singer in Mixed Chorus and Boys Glee Club, he lists baseball as the favorite sport. 19

Mr. Novak” is tops with her, as are football and baseball. WILLIE BURNETT Typewriting, U.S. History, and Biology are the favorer! subjects of Will who expects to be a businessman. He belongs to the Falcon Baseball Team and likes basketball, too. Hobbies are reading sports books, listening to rhythm-and-blues, ami watching TV dramas. ROBERT BUTTON All right, says “Bob, a future college student. Right now swimming and bowling take up his time. Rock n’ roll plays a big part also. He plays good games of football and basketball. Bob’s favorite TV shows are Greatest Show on Earth and Burke’s Lew. CARMEN A1JCIA CARDONA Member of St. Columbus Church Choir. Daughters of Nluv, Optimist Staff and Spanish Club, “Ali’ enjoys dancing to Latin-American records and wants to become a secretary. Her favorite subjects have been stenography and history. I’ve done it,” says she. MICHAEL CHAMBERS Lefty intends to be a player in night clubs, but now he plays drums and skates to pass the time. He also wrestles and plays football. His favorite pieces: Walk on the Wild Side and El Cid. He digs health and science the most. Jaw. is a favorite too. CHARLES CHAMBLISS Big Chari” says Hey, now! to everything. especially sports. A star in baseball. football, and boskctlKill, he plans to go into the business field. He has been an active member of C.O. Patrol and homeroom vice-president. His best subjects have heen algebra and U.S. History. 21
