stressing physical skills Bowling and volleyball were two ot the girls' sports altered this year. Bowling, coached by Miss Jean Blume and Mrs. Sara Jellenick, is a comparatively new sport at South Side. Team members met weekly throughout the winter months to develop body balance. Continuous alter school practices resulted in higher scores for all team members. Volleyball, an old and popular sport, was played two afternoons a week. Under the supervision of Mrs. Dorothy Casey, everyone was given a chance to participate, An honor team was chosen to take part in intra- mural games. By participating in team sports such as bowling and volleyball, the girls improved their individual skill and gained valuable experience in team cooperation and sportsman- ship. Kraus leading the attack. Excellent pitching is also prominent on this year's squad, with A. Young and B. Maurer as Coach Jack Small's outstanding hurlers. Evans. enjoying outdoor fun During the first time division, the shuttlecock become the center of interest as badminton players took to the courts every Monday and Wednesday. With the help of Miss Louise Cressey, both variety in attack and decep- tion were developed. Players demonstrating outstand- ing knowledge in application of badminton skills were selected to compete in interschool competition. The first time division of girls' sports found many en- ergetic girls on the hockey field with stick in hand.
