As we look beyond the colonnade that has wit- nessed our coming and going for three years, we realize that South Side is an integral part of the community and, in a larger sense, the nation. Far from cutting us off from the world, the columns in front of our school serve as a gateway. Three hun- dred students came to South Side three years ago. Today these same students stand looking out at the world they are about to enter. Perhaps the thought of this change is as overwhelming as it is exhilarat- ing. However, South Side has never been an entity in itself, its students have been active participants in the life of Rockville Centre. In addition, the com- munity has exerted a positive influence on the schools. South Side has well prepared the class of 1959 to continue its role in society.
