Siegel, J Undefeated in league play, the i958 team compiled the best J.V. football record of recent years, Starting slowly, the junior gridmen gained momentum by the season's second game. The string of victories which fol- lowed predicts Cyclone dominance in Conference B play for the next few years. Coach Leyden's offensive squad was sparked by Richard Hillman, Donald Schwartz, Wallace Schwartz, and Alan Howard. The defense, led by Neil Butler, Kevin Dunn, Jim Tunick, and Vinnie Viggiano, held opposing teams to relatively fevv touchdowns. W. Rosenfeld, R. Shelley, R. Fox, K. Dunne, T. Fiorentine, D. Grodin. Posting a 5-4-2 record, South Side's J.V. boosters met the best competition in Nassau, including ever- powerful Baldwin, Garden City, and Oceanside. Picking up fundamentals and skills rapidly, the J.V.'s opened and closed the schedule strongly, defeating East Meadow in the final game of the season. Coach Marino's offensive unit demonstrated particular strength, highlighted by the play of Dick Moser, Andy Schwebel, and Mark Slonim.
