O. is the life-blood of student extra-curricular activities. lt masterminds South Side's extensive system of clubs. lt manages the vast school finances. Assemblies, THE SPORTSMAN, school spirit-all are by-products of a success- ful G. O. Schoolwide elections provide o climax to the year's activity. Yet there is greater meaning below the surface. Students leorn the representative process, Ofticers, committees, ond council members receive experience in democratic government. The G. O. is an investment in the future.

Assembly committee members - Jeffrey Weiss, Nancy Holt: Margery Hostetter, chairman, Gail Clayton - prepare list of future assembly programs. Wi Members of the Publicity Committee - Joel Blumberg, chairman, Gayle Smith, John Wekselblatt, Robert Bergen, Marilyn Nichols - help keep the student body informed and enthusiastic. Robert Stein, Ernest Steiner, Margaret Miller, Sue Wershalls of the Dance Committee discuss the Sock-Hop, successful fall dance. continuing the patterns of democracy Behind the scenes at South Side, the GO. com- mittees are hard at work. They are the basic policy- making bodies of the school government. During this past year the Morals and Ethics Com- mittee really fulfilled the high expectations of its original founders. The Honor System was integrated into school life, placing upon students greater re- sponsibility for their own conduct. The Assembly and Publicity Committees suc- cessfully inaugurated a wide variety of interesting and informative programs. Also working for the benefit of the school, the Dance and Art Committees planned original dances and poster displays, which served to bring school spirit to an all-time high.
