Her keen interest in all phases of school activity made her a logical choice for the Laurel Award. As a junior she was secretary both of her class and of the Senior Chora- leers and represented her Hi-Y at the Albany Convention. Soon rec- ognized as a person of integrity and scholarship, Betsy was elected to the National Honor Society. ln her senior year Betsy's teammates rewarded her by choosing her Blue Captain. Betsy's fine record of par- ticipation was climaxed by her election as secretary of the Gen- eral Organization. laurel awards Laurel Award winner, Bob Kaminsky, has ably shown that high scholastic ability, leadership, and an avid interest in activities go hand in hand. ln his junior year, Bob was elected president of the French Club and managed the Cy- clone Shop. This year he co-edited the Sportsman, participated in the Senior play, and served as GO. representative. For relaxation, he plays the piano in various dance bands. Scholastically Bob ranks seventh in the class. These accom- plishments have resulted in his selection as a member of the Key Club and the National Honor Society. They are the basic policy- making bodies of the school government. During this past year the Morals and Ethics Com- mittee really fulfilled the high expectations of its original founders. The Honor System was integrated into school life, placing upon students greater re- sponsibility for their own conduct. The Assembly and Publicity Committees suc- cessfully inaugurated a wide variety of interesting and informative programs. Also working for the benefit of the school, the Dance and Art Committees planned original dances and poster displays, which served to bring school spirit to an all-time high. N Art Committee - Andrea Bush, Sue Morris, Gail Steinberg, Mike Smith, chairman, Flora Greenbaurn - plan a poster for a G, O. Dance. ' Q New inductee, Joy Kaufman, receives o candle, symbolizing knowledge, at the Honor Society induction. Through its many diversified projects, the National Honor Society evidenced the quality of service for which it is known. Of primary importance was the revival of the point system, which prevented students from assuming too many responsibilities. The group also successfully undertook to raise money through stationery and cake and cookie sales for a senior scholarship. During the first of the two yearly inductions, several members delivered thought- provoking speeches on education and science. Students who were elected to Honor Society membership are those seniors and juniors who ranked highest in scholarship, leadership, character, and service. to uphold the ideals of south side Honor Society: FIRST ROW, L. to R.: L. They benefit those receiving help and provide opportuni- ties for their members to learn and practice good citizenship. Realizing a need for such a group, Rock- ville Centre's Kiwanis Club, eleven years ago, estab- lished the South Side Chapter of Key Club International. Composed of forty of South Side's out- standing boys, the organization performs such duties as answering letters to Santa Claus, ushering at school functions, and participating in charity drives. It is one of the most outstanding chapters in the country, having produced in recent years a Key Club Governor of New York State, a Lieutenant-Governor, and an International Trustee.
