They see us when We are smiling, glad of our good fortune or that of others. Sometimes, however, it is for- gotten that despite the carefree times there are moments when we concentrate on more serious matters. Then we are seen debating over various plans of action, trying to deter- mine the best one. It is through the constant exchange of ideas and the feeling of com- panionship which results from Working with others that friendships are formed. The smiles of friends and the thoughtful consideration of ideas are reflected all about us on the faces that We see - faces changing with passing moods. 5 ...Q 4. 9, H o . ! 3: .Wx was ...sw M yrrwsx gjfgb Y I K kj Q-2' X WFS 'QBREQB Y Q , Ying 5255 ' A ' if as fn rf' qv , Q A 'S ' Q 43 Q,-out I., I9 9. 425. - M f Www wfzgig, an Q . - :Mx M gm., , NM .,- im? They see us when we lend our aid to worthy causes in response to the stirring challenge that lies in the cry of the unfortunate. What is not so easily seen, however, is the quiet face of determination with which we strive to meet the challenge of perfection and improve our own abilities both in study and athletics. Challenges are all about us and the Way in which they are met by each of us is found, for a brief moment, on the faces that we see. 7 EQ ,. V3 91 E? She believes it is her duty to provide a home away from home: to surround us with objects of culture so that we may learn to cherish them if we wish. Many places have been beautified by her appreciative touch. The spun glass curtains of the lunchroom conceal with a certain grace a forbidding row of windows, one no longer has to scream to be heard in the sound- proofed natatorium. While the setting for education is being carefully planned, her constant search for excellent teachers never flags. She be- lieves that once the necessary equipment is provided for each student, there is little in school to hinder his achievement, if he, himself, is a willing apprentice. Her concern does not end by providing the tools for each pupil, for she regards the students in South Shore as her children, and she watches the progress of each of them with unfailing interest. Yet, there is something that is as important to her as scholastic achievement, for she realizes that our fundamental happiness lies in harmonious relations with others. This can only be accomplished by participating in the varied events that rotate about the school like satellites about the sun. To her, this understanding of ourselves in relation to others is as important as booklore. It is her wish that by active co-operation the Student Service League will be a true indi- cator of the student's needs and desires. To her who thoughtfully prepares the upward path for us to follow as we acquire knowledge of books and beauty: to one who gives new hope to the discouraged, and salutes the worthy: to her we give our heartfelt thanks- our principal, mln. .gdagefoll Wayan ur dfiidfanf pnincilaa l MR. ALBERT KOSLOFF In November, South Shore happily received its new assistant principal, Albert Kosloff. Mr. Kosloff, upon crossing the school's threshold stated, l'm sure I'll enjoy my new position very much. As time has passed, the ties between Mr. Kosloff and the student body have steadily strength- ened until at present when there exists a filial relationship between the pupils and him. At all times since his arrival, he has striven for complete co-operation between the faculty and the students. It is felt that he has achieved this by being true to his principle of guiding with a firm, but not a harsh hand. Although new to his duties, he has performed them excellently, and all who have come in contact with Mr. Kosloff admire him for his industrious, friendly attitude which has come to mean so much to everybody at South Shore. 14 New teachers, Mr. Martin, Miss Iarrell, and Miss Har- ris are introduced by Dr. Magan to our high school district superintendent, Mr. Oscar F. Fowler. It is filled with memories that are clearly portrayed on the canvas of time. Images most often remembered by each graduate will likely include those of the class officers, for it is they who Went quietly about the business of organizing the class for its activities. Daily meetings of the entire group in 304 established a feeling of unity-a feeling of Working as one toward a common goal. These are some of the memories: friends, Class Day with its breakfast, the play, the helpful division teachers. These are painted in colors so vivid that they will remain indelible forever. This has been proved by the beginners' band, usually lB's, who were able to play at the orientation assembly for incoming freshmen early this spring. They have progressed rapidly because they have had music, instruments, and teachers at their disposal. All they needed was the will to learn the basic fundamentals of music. Other staff duties include making studio appointments for seniors, P.T.A. officers, and faculty: compiling senior activities: selecting a theme: identifying and writ- ing captions for all pictures: completing all dummy sheets: and proofread- ing the book. The Iuniors, although they did not make top score in their section, surprised many spectators by placing second. The boys captured honors in the 50 yard free-style div- ing, and 200 yard free-style relays. They also grabbed first place in back stroke to fin- ish very high in the final tabulation ot team points. jk? gaffegaf QCLIWI, Prospects for a good season looked excellent as the Tars took two out of three pre-season games. Their hopes were somewhat shaken with three straight losses in league competition, but undaunted, the diamond men came back to conquer Hirsch, defending city champions. After a three game lethargy, the Tars downed Parker, Fenger, and Morgan Park for their longest winning streak in league competition. The team has improved steadily and hopes to finish the season strongly. Early season leaders at the plate were Ken Sone, Earl Hagberg, George Pet- erson, and Al Hess.
