INE YEARS AGO the f1ISl students entered South Shore eager and f1lled w1th h1gh hopes and ldeals They L24 Y stood under the flag of the1r school for the f1rst trme and looked far ahead 1nto the future They saw the thou sands of students w1nd1ng down the hazy corr1dors of txme follow1ng after them and they gave to those thousands the symbollsm of the1r 1deals From the green of the earth and the blue of the sky sprang our colors the compass the steerlng wheel and the gull melted together to form our seal Our motto Chart a stralght course rang proudly through as yet unused halls Those f1rst students d1d not ask that the1r school be large or famous nor that vlctory would always be the1rs but they d1d hope that 1t would always cherlsh the slmple vlrtues that have been as lamps to the feet of man k1nd along the path of the ages W1th steady hands they krndled the sacred flames of truth and patr1ot1sm W1th unfalterlng flngers they l1t the lamos of learnlng and tolerance They lgnlted the steady beacon of honesty and w1th a mlghty prlde they put the flame to the torch of courage that they m1ght hold lt h1gh above the1r heads They fanned the brrght glow of loyalty and klndled the glorlous flame of beauty Flnally gentle hands l1t the candle of SSIVICG and the f1rst great task was ended for nelther learnmg nor beauty nor loyalty nor any other v1rtue IS of great or lastlng value unless 1t be flred by a zeal for serv1ce to manklnd They dedlcated themselves to the school they ded1cated the school to 1ts proud commun1ty Nlne years later we rededlcate South Shore It has passed the f1ISl great mllestone 1n a hlstory worthy of deep adm1rat1on From those f1rst v1s1onary students to the1r grateful followers have passed all the cher1shed ldeals and 1n the passrng they have rema1ned unharmed The flames klndled so long ago have only lncreased 1n the1r burnlng 1ntens1ty SAW JUQA SUM! f i 0 12, ,Qt SW,
