On November 21, the South Shelby Football Car- Weatherford intercepts .......,..... again!!! dinals put to death a jinx that had seemed to be hang- ing over them for the past two years. It was on that day that they marched off to battle the Crystal City Hornets on the Hornets' home field in a game with nothing less at stake but the right to play in the State Championship. The despair and frustration of Kirksville in 1968 and the crashing defeat at South Shelby last year were all forgotten as the faithful fans watched their team defeat the Hornets in a heart stopping 14-12 victory. The pictures appearing on this page and the one ' ' ' L L 7 7 following were taken at the Class AAU State Cham- AA pionship Finals held at Warrensburg on November 28th. The game pitted our own South Shelby Cardinals against the Harrisonville Wildcats in a contest most people consider too close to call. Both teams seemed to be at physical and mental peaks at the opening kick-off. The first few minutes started out explosively with both teams scoring early. As time elasped, the Lukehart coached Cardinals be- gan to take control of every aspect of the game while rolling to a early formidable lead. When the final gun sounded, the Cardinals walked off the field with a 38-18 victory in the game and an undisputed supremacy in the state. . fy -V .xx S, -4 -mmf i K K 6 K A 7. .V fjfwr png:-'L 'QV 'fa 'Xa-.-W..-ww t' 'fi t'Vf' wwzftif, V xv ri -'-' in V 15. .. ,ggi .1,..'5?7M 'xx 7 V V' ' ww ff' SW' N 'iv 'W MW ' In .Q M .,.. They serve only about 10 per cent of the American people with elec- tricity. But bigness is not the same as great- ness. In their own way, rural electrics try to achieve a special kind of greatness . . . the kind that comes from providing a necessary service, and providing it continuously, economically, and depend- ably-but with very little fanfare. With the help of Rural Electrifica- tion Administration loans, rural people created the rural electrics to serve them- selves and their neighbors, and this is what they will continue to do. They like it that way. - 149 150 Congratulations 1971 Seniors RONALD M.
