Led by John Yantis and Darold Lennier, the South City 120's overwhelmed all of their North P. A. L. op- position except for the peren- nially strong San Mateo Bear- cats. The Varsity and B thin- clads, while losing most of the dual meets to stronger league opponents, came up with some outstanding individuals. Ed Giachetti, Senior, an out- standing 880 and mile runner, racked up lots of first places. Versatile jim Stireman, a con- sistent shot and discuss man, also picked up valuable points in the sprints. Rod Ford deve- loped into a fine shot putter. Gary Frink, after recovering from a leg injury, became an ace low hurdler. In the B's, Monte Young, Bill Yeager, Gabino Caballero, and Dan Ruiz were the big guns. 61

,,.........-4-.uns STEVE ANDERSON JIM FELSENTHAL JIM O'DONNELL BOB RUIZ DAVE VINA Jos BUTCHER Prospects for the Varsity baseball team this season looked very bright. Returnees from last year's N.P.A.L. championship team were Gil Ullery, Dick Lopez, Darrell Slafter, and joe Butcher. With these players forming a nucleus, a good crop of players from last year's frosh team, plus a number of Seniors who were sidelined last year, the Blue and White figured to be the league spoilers this year. With all this material, and a new j.V.'s team coached by Tom Gaffney, Varsity coach Frank Kelly expected a satisfying season. JIM PATRICK
