ME ETS TREMENDOUS DEMAN DS Mrs. Sauk C. Mayers ENGLISH Miss Sally Fischer ENGLISH Mr. Tom Collins SPEECH, ENGLISH Public speaking, as both a communication and as a fine art, is taught in the two years of speech courses. While learning to construct and deliver speeches for practical situations, the stu- dents gain poise and self-con- fidence. Emphasis is given to good voice development and the improvement of diction. Extra-curricular speech ac- tivities include senior and junior full-length plays. The University Interscholastic League competi- tion offers additional speech ac- tivities with the one-act play, prose and poetry interpretation, persuasive and extemporaneous speaking, and debate. Our foreign language courses have been enhanced this year withthe use of a lan- guage lab and other audio- visual aids such as records, tapes, film-strips, and arti- facts provided by a Mexico depth study purchased by the Spanish Club of last year. These teaching aids have provided a delightful way to study a foreign language. It offers our classes a chance to learn and practice new lan- guage patterns - meet new people in foreign lands-ex- plore new places-gain new insights and broaden their un- derstanding of a foreign cul- ture. These materials help to make the matter of language study more interesting and each lesson a stimulating ex- perience. Mr. Edwin Kraemer SPANISH Mrs. C. B. Oates SPANISH
