HOMEMAKIN Mrs. Ethel McKinley Mrs. Vada Belle Zellner G EDUCATION IS BENEFITIN The I-Iomemaking Department of South San Antonio High School encourages the pupil to continually stay prepared for Whatever emergency should arise. The major purpose of vocational homemaking education is to prepareyouth and adults for the occupation of home- making. The homemakers of tomorrow are now learning homemaking skills. They are also being trained to understand human relationships which will help them achieve satisfying home living. The specific areas of instruction covered at the different levels are: l. Child Care and Child Development . Clothing and textiles . Family Relations 2. 3 4. Foods and Nutrition . Health and Home Care of the Sick 5 6. Housing and Home Management G Homemaking is fun from the looks on the girls' faces.

LANGUAGE ARTS Mrs. Barker ENGLISH Miss Maloney ENGLISH Mrs. Kinmau ENGLISH Mrs. Atchley ENGLISH Mr. Gunga GERMAN Mrs. Schulze ENGLISH .-w-'HV' 4 Mr. Gunga teaches his class the German conjugations. 18 English is a required course in the freshman sophomore andjunioryears ofhigh school Englishis an elective in the senior year but is recommended for those planning to attend college. Grammar and composition are taught the first semester. During the semester students build a better vocab- ulary, learn good sentence construction and write interesting themes. Litera- ture is taught the second semester. German, a second modern foreign language, is offered tojuniors and sen- iors. This course gives the student a workable knowledge in reading, speak- ing and writing the German language. It also gives the student an idea of the cultural background of Germany and its people.
