Distributive Ed ucotion, Journalism, Mr, Carl Eakin DISTRIBUTIVE EDUCATION Mrs, Sank C, Mayers IOURNALISM Mr, Melvin McFar1ing INDUSTRIAL ARTS South San students are fortunate in being able to choose among elec- tives such as Distributive Education, Journalism, and Industrial Arts. In D,E., as we call it, class groups study school and store relation- ships, store speech, organization, inventory, and store or business math. 'I'his course is open to Juniors and Seniors only: they are in school for four classes daily Cincluding D.EJ, then go to work at 1:00 P,M, The chief purpose in the I.ndustria1Arts department is to give students a basic understanding of, and a working knowledge of, the processes in- volved in general woodworking, metalworking, and drafting. Courses em- phasize hand tool skills and neatness in addition to knowledge of the var- ious machines employed in industries. This in addition to the theory in- volved with the various areas comprised department goals. Journalism in high school has three objectives:to encourage and train students interested in writing: to serve as a medium for building school spirit and publicizing the school activitiesg and to stimulate interest in the newspaper as a force in today's society. The BOBCAT, school newspaper, is published biweekly by journalism pupils. In its twenty- ninth year Csponsored by Mrs. Sank Mayers except for one yearj, the BOBCAT has become a mirror, reflecting the curricular and extra-curricular activities of school. Mr. Melvin Meads Mr. Wm, Kretzmeier BAND CHORAL Music is an important part ofthe school, both curricular and extra- curricular. The department includes two active divisions: band and choral. The purposes of the band department are two- fold: first, to teach students to develop an appreciation of music from classical to jazz, through actual application by performing on an instrument: second, to develop the talent of those who may display exceptional ability. Our Bobcat band is dramatic proof of the success of this plan. The choir is continuing its program of improvement and attainment of a high degree of excellence.
