The function of the science department is to meet the steadily growing needs of high school students. This is accom- plished by offering a variety of courses. General Science, a freshman course, deals with all aspects of science in a general way. The Biology department helps the sophomore student to understand the plants and animals of the world. Chemistry and Physics, junior or senior level courses, are offered to the student and to persons interested in advance science. Chemistry covers all phases of the chemical work, while Physics deals especially with electronics, as well as other topics. Meet Students' Vital Requirements Mensw- Miss Q'tiz uses visual aids, such as television, to aid in the teaching of history. The Social Studies Department of South San Antonio High School includes classes in Social Studies flzreshmanp, World History fSophomoreJ, American History Uuniorj and Civics fSeniory. The purpose of the Social Studies Department is, first, to introduce the students to their role as present citizens and future votersg and, secondly, to give them an understanding of the fate of past civilizations, and the goals of contemporary nations, thirdly, to give students a historical background of the construction of their ancestors to carry on and improve our Republicg finally, to give students an insight into the organization national, state and local government and those factors necessary for a democratic government to succeed.
