MR. 81 MISS BOBCAT John Jordan Judy Claxton Judy Cloxton Forward. . .march! is a familiar phrase frequently heard from Judy Claxton, president of the Pep Squad. An active Senior, Judy is member of the Student Council and the National Honor Society, besides participating in this year's Coronation. She is a sweet, attractive girl, well-known on the campus because of her leader- ship and service in our school. WHCTS WHO This section consists of the Senior students who have done the most for the betterment of our School. These eight students are the most active you will find at South San Antonio High School. Gerry Grimes A steady eye, optimistic philosophy, and a well- groomed appearance characterize Gerry Grimes. As president of the National Honor Society and a member of the Student Council, his actions show that he is truly a person with great potential and high aspira- tions. He has everyone's best wishes for the future. Glorio Contreros A quiet Senior student, Gloria won her place in Who's Who because of her active participation in so many events here at school. Being cheerleader automatically makes her an officer in the Pep Squadg she is also a member of the Girls' Athletic Associa- tion, and the National Honor Society. Gloria is a born leader and a willing participant, an asset to our school. 28 WHCTS J e s se C o m p o s One of the most popular persons around South San Antonio High School is our Student Council President, Jesse Campos. Well-liked and admired by all students, Jesse has been awarded this place in Who's Who be- cause of his outstanding work in the Council and his scholastic attainmenrs, which have earned him membership in National Honor Society. Being chaplain of the Student Council, a member of the National Honor Society, twirler of the Bobcat Band, and editor of the 1962 CAT TALE certainly identify her as one of the most active girls in school. Lee. Big Tommy Dugger played perhaps the finest game of his career for the Bobcats. The Rattlers still had not figured out a way to halt his domination of the boards and he slammed in 27 points for the night. San Marcos led only twice in the game, at 8-7 and at 11-10. But Dugger and Dan Carrasco started to work and it was South San at the quarter by 17-15, at the half it was 30-22, and at the third quarter South San still led by 52-43. Dugger made 12 of his points in the first half, and Dan Carrasco and Billy Jorgenson each scored eight in the first half. The Rattler defense held Newton Grimes scoreless until he sank a free throw with 5:03 left in the third quarter. But he cashed in six points in each of the last two quarters for 12. BOBCATS RETURN TO AUSTIN FOR 5TH STRAIGHT CHeadlines and clippings taken from local papersj 88 BOBCATS BEAT KINGSVILLE FOR REGIONAL CROWN South San Antonio's Bobcats moved into the State Class AAA tournament for the fifth straight year Friday night by downing the Kingsville Brahamas, 51-46, in a game at the Corpus Christi Ray gym. The Bobcats, defending state titlists, were headed only once in the regional game. Tommy Dugger promptly put the Bobcats ahead to stay, however, and Newton Grimes repeated with a field goal. The Bobcats forged ahead by 10 points in the third quarter, then stretched it to 12 points at 47-35 with 3 1X2 minutes to play in the game that saw neither team at its peak performance. The Brahams worked hard to cut the lead but never got closer than 50-46, with 5 seconds to play. South San Antonio lost the ball on numerous occasions through poor passes in the first half. Dugger again was the outstanding man on the backboards and led all scoring with 18 points. Other leading Bobcats were Dan Carrasco with 15 points and Grimes with 12.
