Cliff Girod, Dick Ballantyne, Bob Metzger. Eight science teachers were a part of the South Salem staff in 1963-1964. Three of the group taught here in South's first year. Those three, who constituted the entire science staff in the first year, are Miss Carmelita Barquist, Mr. George Birrell, and Mr. Leo Stenback. A new concept in biology was offered this year through the BSCS course, taught by Miss Barquist. CBA chemistry, a relatively new approach, was taught for the third year at South by Mr. George Birrell and Mr. Perry Spelbrink. Patricia Rynerson, Leo Stenback. fe Susan Irish and Joanne Green. Harry Hinton, John Edmundson, D.J. Rasmussen, Gerald Gilman. South Salem's Math department originally consisted of three teachers, two of whom, Mr, Metzger and Mr. Ballantyne, still teach at South. The girls' physical education teachers are Miss Shirley Zimdars, Mrs. Doris Dyer, and Miss Wilma Earnest. In 1955, South had four Health and Physical Education teachers, each teaching in both , f areas. After ten years, ten teachers make up the combined department, Only one, Mr. Gary Goodson, teaches in both areas. Miss Shirley Zimdars and Mr. Hank luran have been with the South Staff for the entire decade. i ?'t' Marv Heater and Hank luran are the full-time boys' physical education teachers.
