PERSONNEL STAFF ENLARGES Over the decade of Saxon history the student counseling needs have increased with the increase in enrollment. For the first four years South Salem had but two counselors, the deans, on the counseling staff now, ten years later, five people, plus the deans, work together. Maintaining silence is the maior problem of Mrs. Little, the librarian. Mrs. Little joined the staff in 1961. Mrs. Swofford and Mrs. Grasing assist Mrs. Little as secretaries. Mr. Nelson, Audio Visual Aids Director, since Souths beginning, coordinates the use of all Audio-Visual materials, and controls the use of the Auditorium and Little Theater. Nearly forty girls tand one hoyl help in the office work of South Salem this year. l Audio Visual Aids Director, Mr. Maynard Nelson 12 Student Office Helpers, Becky Purvine, Pat Little, Carol Wallace. Q 196: Library Secretary,'Mrs. Kathleen Grasing, Libraria Kathryn Little, Textbook Librarian, Mrs. Muriel Mrs. lean Savage, the school nurse, since 1961, has a big iob keeping nearly 2,000 students healthy.

In 1954, when South opened her doors, the busy Salem school board consisted of only seven members. inf A0 Mrs. Eleanor Ellis, Mrs. Donna Lane, Miss Amanda Anderson, and Mrs. Winona Wright. Many teachers have come and gone in South's first decade. The English department, which consisted of 6 teachers in the first year, now is made up of 18. New to the English department this year are Mrs. Margaret Collins, Mrs. Norma Hedberg, Mrs. Donna Lane, Mrs. Sue Leonard, and Mrs. Antoinette Bose. Mrs. Sue Simchuck also taught two classes of English in the first semester and John King assumed these for the second semester. Only three of the present teachers, Miss Anderson, Miss Burroughs, and Mrs. Wright were among those to come to South at its opening.
