In 1954, when South opened her doors, the busy Salem school board consisted of only seven members. Maxine Heringer, Dean of Girls Mr. Brown has been vice principal since the beginning of the school, In 1962 South gained a second vice principal, Mr. Ramsdell who had been Dean of Boys. At that time Mr. Tilton a former Amerie can Problems teacher, became Dean of Boys. Miss Heringer taught English for the first four years and has served as Dean of Girls since then. Mr. Hauk has been coordinator of physical education since the schooI's opening. PERSONNEL STAFF ENLARGES Over the decade of Saxon history the student counseling needs have increased with the increase in enrollment. For the first four years South Salem had but two counselors, the deans, on the counseling staff now, ten years later, five people, plus the deans, work together. Maintaining silence is the maior problem of Mrs. Little, the librarian. Mrs. Little joined the staff in 1961. Mrs. Swofford and Mrs. Grasing assist Mrs. Little as secretaries. Mr. Nelson, Audio Visual Aids Director, since Souths beginning, coordinates the use of all Audio-Visual materials, and controls the use of the Auditorium and Little Theater. Nearly forty girls tand one hoyl help in the office work of South Salem this year. l Audio Visual Aids Director, Mr. Maynard Nelson 12 Student Office Helpers, Becky Purvine, Pat Little, Carol Wallace.
