' l On September 9, South Salem opened its doors for the tenth year. Enrollment reached 1964, more than doubling 1 the number ot students with which the school began a decade before. 22.3 ,..,,'J2.Z A An integral part of opening procedure, tee-paying, was conducted the first two weeks of school. Crowded conditions brought split-shift scheduling, study halls in the library and cafeteria, and packed halls. The Girls' League began the year on September 4 with the Big and Little Sister Day to welcome incoming sophomore girls and transfer students. SOUTH OPENS ITS DOORS Q f xx R .O wr d ' i Avy

NOVEMBER , A . , ww? 44 GL Welcome Day, September 4, 1963 an introduction to a small part of Saxon lite. The first day, September 9, the beginning of the end for some, the first step for others, Indian Summer days melting into crisp fall nights at the stadium. Football with an added attraction, Rowdy Dowd Darlings. A two-week UGN drive ending with S500 over the goal. The Magazine Drive - for every two subscriptions, a Saxon football-player doll. Black Friday, November 22, a day of national tragedy. And then Thanksgiving vacation, saddened by the recent loss of our president.

Senior boys took advantage of the prolonged good weather, using the noon hour to conduct educational experiments outside.
