Faculty and Adm Strat on 17 Administration At South we try, despite the problems of society, to produce a miraculous blend of care, discipline, energy, learning, and imag- ination that good teaching requires. We are faced with changing standards, techniques, and procedures which we try, but sometimes we must resort to basic skills. As principal of South, I will strive to keep up with changing times, to make our school a place where students can leam and achieve, and thus to feel good about themselves. Mr. james Donnell, Ir. Faculty Committee Selects Who's Who The road of life winds on, we know not where. We cannot see the far-off mystic goal, But still we follow on, each struggling soul Striving to reach the clearer higher air. And there the secret lies, for just to strive Is in itself the meaning of the way, The cloudy pillar guiding us by day, The flame by night, is that deep, inward drive, Even in dreams the purpose labors on, So that we wake with strength and hope renewed, To take the road again till day be done, Meeting each obstacle with fortitude. The goal we may not see, but this we know, That only by our striving will we grow. - Muriel Brewster 70 3 ,....-n FX ,Q Conscientious and dependable, Cindy Wagoner has been a loyal member of the Interact, Business, and Math Clubs for three years and of the Anchor Club and NHS for two years. Inspire V Raider Pride 82 Cheerleading, like any other sport, requires long hours of practice, determination, coordination, sportsmanship, and above all, school spirit. Much of a cheerleader's time is spent coordinating cheers and stunts and thinking of cre- ative ways to show support for our varsity athletes. Cheer- leaders have a special responsibility in that they are the chief promotors of school spirit. They must always repre- sent South in a most respectable way. Even when the chips are down, they have to keep smil- ing. They have to keep clapping, jumping, and cheering the team on. No varsity cheerleader will easily forget the times when they had little to cheer about. The team was led by the spectacular long distance running ability of Reed Simmons. The Raiders are proud of their Cross Country team and are looking forward to accepting many more championship titles from this special group of dedicated athletes. The Raider runners were coached by Mr. Bill Cranfield, Guidance Counselor at South, who also coached a successful wrestling team. The Raider Cross Country team will seek to keep its title and never lose it to another SPC school. The determination and dedication of this team could very well make this possible next year. , ,.Lk airway-in Coach Bill Cranfield X25 :LQ-1 257 V t Os Standing CL-RJ: Coach Cranfield, Tim Finney, Mark Hager, David Moose, Michael Simmons, Gene Doby, David Brandt, jeff Ennis, Reed Simmons, Todd Owen.. lfneeling: James Cunningham, Britt Walker, Steve Leonard, Tony Long, Mark Webb, Paul Hager, jimmy Webb, David White, Alan Goodman. During the month of November, as part of American Education Week, members treated the teachers. Also during that month the girls visited the China Grove Rest Home where they entertained the residents, served refreshments, and delivered small favors to the residents.
