THE ORIFLAMME Page fourteen JOHN KOZAK Yi-von John is the fellow who walks about with a care- less air, and who has the remarkable habit of ex- pressing his griefs in Russian-French with a Jewish accent. Yi-von's ambition is to go to Lafayette in order to send scores to Mr. Bryan. John also be- lieves in patronizing the faculty. Perhaps there is something in it. Well, John, you know best. WALTER BORAK Dewey Hail to thee, blithe spirit. And you can believe us, he surely is blithe. His humor would slay Eddie Cantor. He's funnier than Mr. Shay would be in rompers. We believe he feasts on oil because he surely has a smooth tongue. Is he a fiery sales- man? Why, one look in his burning, feverish eyes and,-you buy a magazine. BETTY APPLEBY Betty is an example of what the perfect High School student should be. Besides holding a regu- lar position on the Honor Roll, she is the Literary Editor of the Oriilamme, Secretary of the Senior Class, President of the French Club, and a loyal booster of the school. When her school activities become Ted -ious, she puts them aside and enter- tains a Junior member of the football squad. MARY ALLGAIR Mick There goes that good-natured, chuckling laugh. Yes, that's Mary, always cheerful and smiling. It's a rare thing to see her downcast. Mary is the busiest girl at any Senior social affair, taking care of re- freshments, decorations, etc. She is also our popular A. A. secretary. And what a S. R. H. S. booster! Here's luck to you, refreshment and decoration lady.

THE ORIFLAMME July followed June, August followed July and finally September rolled around. At last we were lordly Seniors and could now be properly disdainful of the lower classmen. Solid, Chem, Shorthand and History were the torturous contrivances which tripped us up, but we settled down to work to raise the old average. Then we had class elections. The re- sults were: John Kozak, Presidentg Walter Borak, Vice President, and Betty Appleby, Secretary. The depression threw a monkey wrench into our magazine campaign. However with all the drawbacks the ledger still showed a profit. Our next activity, the Senior Ha1lowe'en Party, was held at the Campbell School and was a huge success. Encouraged by this very good response, a Valentine Dance was also held at the Campbell School and proved just as successful and popular. In the middle of March the senior play was selected. Try-outs and practice started almost immediately. We de- cided to give something unusual and so a good, spooky hair-raiser, The Call of the Banshee , was picked. This, our last play, is to be given in the High School Auditorium. With a dance which will be given in May, all our activities except for graduation will be finished. In a short time the career of the class of 1933 in S. R. H. S. will be over and our years of study, work, play and sport will be finished for- ever. We have enjoyed our years in 'S. R. H. S. as perhaps we shall never enjoy years again, and we will keep them always fresh in our memories. Qcknutnlzhgments The members of the class of 1933 wish to acknowledge their indebt- edness to Mr. Bryan for his guidance and helpful criticism during the preparation of this annual, to Mr. Lynch for his assistance in the art and humor features, and to Miss Luker and Miss Van Hise for typing the manuscript. THE QRIFLAMME MAE ANDERSON Mae is very serious. It may be that her mirth vanished with a certain young graduate of South River High into the sticks of Pennsylvania. The saying goes that heart interests and books are never a good combination, but that certainly is not true in Mae's case. Just look at her grades if you have any doubts. Z E DAVID AREHART Dave Dave is the handsome Senior with a profile like Adonis. He is invariably immersed in a profound silence, and the only evidence of his wakefulness is an occasional flutter of his eyelids. When addressed by an unsympathetic teacher, Dave awakes with a start and is peeved at having had his most inte1'est- ing' revery disturbed. If dreams are an indication, here is our potential poet. I Le L2 H' DOROTHY ARLETH Dot We wonder if anyone ever saw Dot without a smile. During most of the day she is fairly quiet. But by the last period she is no longer able to re- strain herself, and in spite of Mrs. Franklin's best efforts to repress her Dot continues to laugh and chuckle to her heart's content. Continue through life with a smile, Dot. El El GERALDINE ARMSTRONG Jerry The Senior class can boast of talents in varied directions, but we can rightly put up Jerry as an adequate representative in the field of acting. She certainly feels at home before the foot-lights. But we're inclined to think that Jerry has many sides to her character. That probably explains her natural- ness when cast either as the sweet young heroine or the double crossing moll. I . ,ff bf 9 fur .-jj 1' 1 1J!j 0
