One of the most unusual and different courses is the high school English classes. The English classes now are not just the old reading litera- ture, doing grammar, and just the basics. We have now gotten into more ex- citing activities like the study of folklore, pan- tomines, theme exchanges with Ball State, and research papers. S It doesn't matter whether you've been here one year or six, at one time or another you have gone to the library. Each individual thinks of the library in a different way. To many, it is a haven of rest , a place where one goes to read or just to think in peace. To others, it might serve as an escape from study hall and last but not least, it is also a great source of information for all. Iu- niors and seniors are espe- cially aware of this fact when research time rolls around. Mrs. Harrell's duties as li- brarian are a hundredfold. Often she ventures far beyond her line of duty to keep SR's ever-demanding students satisfied. Whatever your reason for going to the library, Mrs. Harrell is al- ways willing to help you whenever you need her . . One of the most popular courses offered here at SR is Home Economics. Usually you consider Home EC. an area in which only girls seem to be interested, and although this is true for the most part, there have been many boys who have ventured into this very field and found it both interesting and profitable. What is happening in the world today? What hap- pened yesterday? Answers to these questions and many more can be found in SR's Social Studies Department. Under the able leadership of Mr. Sutherlin and Mr. Rog- ers, the students here can become informed on all world affairs. However, as in most areas there iseroom for improvement. The equipment in our social studies department leaves much to be desired. With the exception of a few globes and maps, our in- structors are left with little more than their imagination. Films are shown to the classes if the teacher is for- tunate enough to find a pro- jector that's in working order. Through the resourceful energies of these two gentle- men, students taking courses in social studies were able to escape the pitfalls of the boredom often found in these areas. Hopefully, through the changes of com- ing years the areas of social studies can become even more interesting and chal- lenging for the students and teachers. Improving the physical fit- ness and abilities of students at South Ripley is just a part of what goes into the physi- cal education courses at SR. Getting a little flabby around the edges? Then per- haps you should go in and join the PE classes of Mr. Feist or Mrs. Helton. - .sits . Q View fm ,J . -,,.- ,i - ... .
