Health Occupations is a course designed to give students the means of obtaining realistic information in determining their own interests and suitability in the health field. The main goal of the class is to prepare students for entry into professional training programs in the health-related occupations. HO I is a one hour classroom study and is designed to prepare students with knowledge. understanding. and a minimum of basic skills. Among the included areas of study are personal. family, and community hygiene, disease control. basic anatomy and physiology in the health field. Instruction on first aid is also given. HO II is composed ofa select group of 18 students who show particular interest in the health field. Being a daily two-hour course, students spend two days a week at local health agencies to extend their classroom study. By exposing students to the variety of health careers, it is hoped that each student will discover his position in the world of health. Above: Andrea Walker weighs Lisa Hovis. PHYSICAL EDUCATIO The physical education department at South Point consisted ofa variety of sports including hockey and basketball, which was played indoors. and football, softball, and soccer which was played outdoors. Also. a unit of weightlifting and golf was taught in the spring. During the year of P.E. a student had the opportunity to find that all those hours in the gym were worth it because of the increased vigor and stamina. Above right: So this is what they do in P,E.
