Terrible Tex Keeping up with the Texan tradi- tion, as always, is the familiar face of Terrible Tex. Even though Tex doesn’t actually play basketball, he is a permanent member of the team. However, Tex doesn’t limit himself only to athletics, he is a symbol for every activity at SPC. Tex is a valuable asset, an atten- tion grabber, but most of all, Tex is the spirit of South Plains College.

EERE ee We’re Number One-- the South Plains College Texan men proudly display their first place trophy that they won by taking first in the own invitational tourney, the Texan Classic. The squad defeated Lamar (Colo.) Community College 122-94, Temple Junior College 108-87, and Lon Morris College in the Championship game 80-73. Co- captians Dicky Winter and David Morgan hold the trophy and were the leaders in the action. Winter scored 66 big points in the three games to lead in scoring, and Morgan led in defense as he held Temple’s Thomas Taplin to nine points after he had popped the nets for 42 the night before against Lon Morris. Terrible Tex, SPC’s mascot, cheers the team on from behind. = a — =
