Dr. Baker Dr. Marvin L. Baker, President of SPC, was elected to his position in 1961. Dr. Baker had worked at Southwest Texas Junior College, Howard County Junior College, and Florida State University before coming to Levelland. After graduation from high school, Dr. Baker served in the navy for two years, receiving his discharge in 1946. He then went on to complete his education. In May of 1949 he recieved his Bachelor of Science and in August of that same year received his Master of Science. In 1956 he obtained his Doctor of Philosophy from The University of Texas. Dr. Baker believes that the trend for colleges of the 1980’s and 1990’s will be “‘to teach people how to live in the times when they’re not working on the job.” His main question is how to get people “interested in the finer things,” such as great art and music. According | to Dr. Baker we do not, yet, know ho w to spark this in- | terest.
