6 Administrative Staff Tax Assessor-Collector John Dickson The Tax Assessor-Collector at South Plains College is Mr. John Dickson. His responsibilities cover the supervision of the office staff and the management of the tax office. His duties are di- rected by the President. His main duty is in mat- ters affecting the assessment and collection of taxes. Mr. Dickson has two daughters: Mary Lou, age twelve, and Linda Faye, age seven. His Wife, Lu- nette, is an instructor at South Plains College. Mr. Dickson enjoys participating in active sports such as golf, and is a passive sports fan who enjoys watching football and basketball. Reading is also a hobby for Mr. Dickson. His main interest in literature is historical novels and history books. Mr. Dickson is a graduate of Sundown High! School and a Texas Tech University where he earned his B.B.A. degree. He served in the Unit- ed States Army for two years. Part of Mr. Dickson's success in his position as Tax Assessor-Collector is that he enjoys meeting people. Mr. Dickson is a cheerful employee of SPC and interesting to converse with. He is a branch of the tree of life for all who surround him in their work, be it student or gainfully em- ployed bread winner. Dean Of Men Dean Ge-rstenberger Mr. Earl Gerstenberger, Dean of Men at South Plains College since 1966, performs many tasks on campus. Supervising the operation and main- tenance of the men's dormitories is just one of the many jobs performed by the Dean. Besides supervising the Matrons in the Men's Dormi- tories, he also serves as a member of the college disciplinary committee. Mr. Gerstenberger is re- sponsible for counseling and disciplining of male students in minor disciplinary infractions. Graduating from his hometown high school, Rockdale High, Mr. Gerstenberger went on to Blinn Junior College. Later he graduated from Sam Houston State College where he received his Master's Degree. He lettered in football two years at Blinn Junior College and completed his collegiate career in football with three letters at Sam Houston State. Dean Gerstenberger and his wife, June, have resided in Levelland since 1958. They have two children, Sharon Lea, twelve years of age and Brian Lee nine years old. By Thomas Wilson 1 ,I ' ' it , I l Dean of Women Dean Roberts Mrs. Carole Roberts has served for five years as Dean of Women at South Plains College. Her areas of responsibility include the maintenance, operation, and regulation of the women's dormi- tories. She serves as a member of the College Disciplinary Committee and is an instructor of Orientation. Mrs.lRoberts makes and enforces such regula- tions as may be required to insure proper deco- rum for all women students. She is responsible for counseling and disciplining women students in minor disciplinary infractions. Mrs. Roberts enjoys working with people. She finds great satisfaction in her role as Dean of Women. She also enjoys travel, reading, cooking and is an ardent pro-football fan. Dean Roberts received her B.S. and M.E. Administrative Staff Counselors Mr. Melton and Mrs. Foster A Don Melton Billye Johnson Secretary to the Guidance and Counseling Office Lupe Cardenas is a student work- er in the office also. I '?ii,ff 395 I , 5 A 4 m -'.. -4 ,W , .SQA , , Sherley Foster COUNSELORS Mr. Melton's and Mrs. Foster's duties are made up of directing the student orientation program, and organizing and administering the guidance and counseling program in coop- eration with the Deans. Among their other responsibilities are recruiting students and working with the Small School Association Students Seminar. Mr. Melton and his wife, Margaret have re- sided in Levelland for the past five years. They have two children, Teri, a seventh grader and their son Greg who is in the eighth grade. Mrs. Melton is a sixth grade teacher at Capital Ele- mentary. Mr. Melton attended Tyler Junior College for two years where he received his Associate of Science Degree. He also received his Master's of Education at Stephen F. Aus- tin. Mrs. Foster and her husband have resided in Levelland for two years. They have two chil- dren, a three year old son, Alan and a five year old daughter, Raeann. Mr. Foster is principal at Capital Elementary.
